Abstract: A method on a server for providing a ringtone based on a video can be provided. The method can include providing a graphical user interface to a user over a communications network and receiving, via the graphical user interface, identifying information for a video file on a third party server. The method can further include sending to the third party server a request for the video file, wherein the request is based on the identifying information and receiving the video file from the third party server. The method can further include streaming the video file to the user via the graphical user interface and receiving, via the graphical user interface, segment data identifying a segment of the video file. The method can further include generating a ringtone from the video file based on the segment data and transmitting the ringtone to the user.
