  • Patent number: 4451008
Abstract: A disk bearing a clamp for snagging the wire is supported by a bearing and attached by rods to a wire guard, the axial movements of which are controlled by a jack. The disk and guard are rotatingly driven via a pulley and a belt. Two driving mechanisms made up of couplings, driven pulleys, and driving pulleys make it possible to drive the guard and the disk via an auxiliary shaft either at a speed synchronized with that of the reel or at a slightly slower speed. The clamp then lags behind the reel and forms a loop with the leading end of the winding.

  • Patent number: 4438886
Abstract: A double winding machine for winding wire on reels includes two reel supports with drive shafts. Each support is equipped with a snagging mechanism comprising a hook-bearing disk with hook, an uncoiling member, and a bearing for supporting the disk and the uncoiling member coaxially with the reel and for allowing relative displacement of the disk and uncoiling member between an initial and a displaced position. A disengageable coupler is provided to rotationally couple the disk, uncoiling member and reel. The coupler can be translationally disengaged. Brakes are provided for the disk to produce a lag between the disk and reel to lengthen the leading end of the wire. The relative displacement is performed with the lag, allowing the leading end to be retained in the hook and uncoiling member. The leading end is thus made accessible, even after winding is complete.

  • Patent number: 4030673
Abstract: A double winding machine for winding metal wire and having an automatic wire-transfer device which includes a support, two pairs of coaxial reel-spindles borne by the support, and at least two reels. Each reel is provided with a wire-securing groove and is adapted to be held by a respective one of pairs of reel-spindles.The machine also includes two snagging members, each mounted on a respective one of the reel spindles of each of the pairs, and a deflection device operated at the time of transfer for changing the path of travel of the wire. The deflection device includes a wire-pushing mechanism adapted to engage the wire in the snagging member associated with an empty reel, a deflector adapted to cause relative displacement of the path of travel of the wire with respect to a full reel for engaging the wire in the securing groove of that reel, and a control for actuating the deflector just prior to the wire-pushing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 3952960
Abstract: A winding machine equipped with a traverse mechanism to protect, for example, a reel or wire wound on a reel should feed wire break during feeding of the reel. The mechanism includes a carriage, borne by a support, which moves back and forth along the entire length of a reel and carries a pulley for guiding wire that is wound on the reel. A circular protective channel coaxial with the reel and borne by the carriage moves back and forth with the carriage. The channel includes a circular track portion extending in a plane parallel to and laterally offset with respect to the plane of the pulley, and a deflection portion situated in the same plane as the pulley and limited by a deflection wall.

  • Patent number: 3945580
Abstract: A winding machine for metal wire including apparatus to protect, for example, a reel or wire wound on a reel should feed wire break during feeding of the reel. The apparatus includes: a support for at least one reel; a motor for driving the reel in rotation; a guiding mechanism including a traversing carriage bearing a pulley for guiding the wire as the wire is wound on the reel; and a protective device, to protect the reel in the event of wire breakage, including two protective plates of arcuate shape extending the entire length of the reel. At least one of the plates is hinged about an axis parallel to that of the reel and is movable between an open position and a closed position in which one of its edges meets a corresponding edge of the other of the plates, the opposite edges of the two plates being spaced from one another so as to define a longitudinal slot between them.
