The sweetener composition of the invention was found to significantly improve the taste profile, long lasting freshness and clean feel of oral care compositions and to deliver an in-use sweetness that was more natural and pleasant than artificial sweeteners alone.

Examples of parent essential oil aldehydes and ketones include citral, cinnamic aldehyde, ?-anisaldehyde, vanillin, ethyl vanillin, heliotropin, carvone, and menthone. Examples of parent essential oil alcohols and phenolics include thymol, eugenol, isoeugenol, dihydroeugenol, carvacrol, carveol, geraniol, nerol, vanillyl alcohol, heliotropyl alcohol, ?-anisyl alcohol, cinnamyl alcohol and ?-ionol. Examples of parent essential oil acids include ?-anisic acid, cinnamic acid, vanillic acid and geranic acid.
