Publication number: 20240085602Abstract: A system is provided for generating a polarization interference pattern. The system includes a light source configured to output a first beam having a predetermined wavelength. The system includes a transmissive polarization volume hologram (“PVH”) mask configured to provide a predetermined diffraction efficiency to a second beam having the predetermined wavelength, a circular polarization, and a non-zero incident angle at the transmissive PVH mask. The system includes a light deflecting element disposed between the light source and the transmissive PVH mask, and configured to deflect the first beam as the second beam toward the transmissive PVH mask. The transmissive PVH mask is configured to forwardly diffract the second beam incident thereon as a third beam and a fourth beam having orthogonal circular polarizations, a substantially same light intensity, and symmetric propagation directions. The third beam and the fourth beam interfere with one another to generate the polarization interference pattern.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventors: Xiayu FENG, Sawyer MILLER, Mengfei WANG, Stephen CHOI, Lu LU, Barry David SILVERSTEIN

Publication number: 20230016510Abstract: Voice-based input is used to operate a media device and/or to search for media content. Voice input is received by a media device via one or more audio input devices and is translated into a textual representation of the voice input. The textual representation of the voice input is used to search one or more cache mappings between input commands and one or more associated device actions and/or media content queries. One or more natural language processing techniques may be applied to the translated text and the resulting text may be transmitted as a query to a media search service. A media search service returns results comprising one or more content item listings and the results may be presented on a display to a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2022Publication date: January 19, 2023Inventors: Mukesh Patel, Lu Silverstein, Srinivas Jandhyala

Patent number: 10088321Abstract: A mobile device providing time regulated navigational guidance for travel to a flight gate in an airport terminal, based on the time for boarding the flight, the preferences of the traveler, estimated transit times on various segments of a route to the gate from a starting point of the travel (or the current location of the mobile device) involving different transportation modalities, and wait times at various queues in the airport. Notifications and/or reminders are provided according to the time estimates to guide the travel for timely travel to the gate and optionally recommend points of interests on the way to the gate within the time constraint.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2017Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: Onemarket Network LLCInventor: Dana Lu Silverstein

Patent number: 7791597Abstract: A method of interacting with a computing device via one or more inking instruments to generate digital ink may include the steps of emitting light from a light emitting device to an inking instrument, receiving first user inputs from the inking instrument, and identifying the inking instrument based on sensed light reflected from the inking instrument. Another method may include the steps of simultaneously detecting first user inputs from a first inking instrument and second user inputs from a second inking instrument by receiving first light emitted from the first inking instrument and second light emitted from a second inking instrument that each have one or more identifying characteristics, identifying the inking instrument based on their identifying characteristics, and generating corresponding digital ink.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2006Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Dana Lu Silverstein, Duncan, Manolito E. Patent number: 7621415Abstract: A storage is provided for an interactive display system that both provides a graphic display and responds to objects disposed proximate to or in contact with a display surface. Due to a limited available volume within a housing of the interactive display system, the storage is provided either external to the housing, or within a peripheral portion of the housing so as not to interfere with the operation of the interactive display system. In one embodiment, a sheet of flexible material is coupled to an exterior surface of the housing. Elastomeric edges of the sheet are pulled away from the housing to provide access to a volume disposed between the sheet and the external surface of the housing. In another embodiment, pockets are formed within a sheet hung from a backing, adjacent to the external surface. Yet another embodiment includes a drawer within a peripheral portion of the display.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2005Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Allen Han, Dana Lu Silverstein
