Abstract: A multifunction device includes a multifunction controller, a first interface for receiving input data from a document data source and a second interface for outputting processed input document data to a printer, and a touch screen that implements a graphical user interface for controlling the operation of the device. The device includes control over setting operational parameters for the document data source and the printer, and selecting a mode of operation of the multifunction device. Another interface is provided for coupling to a facsimile device for outputting processed document data to the facsimile device under control of the graphical user interface, while a further interface is provided for coupling to an e-mail port for outputting processed document data to the e-mail port, also under control of the graphical user interface. Users are able to search and access databases through a global data communications network.

Abstract: A multifunction, communication device including a user recognition device for obtaining user identifying data from a user, an interface for receiving the user identifying data from the user recognition device, a memory for containing personal user contact data associated with the user, and a controller having a user interface for controlling the operation of the communication device by using the personal user contact data associated with the user in performing at least one function of the communication device. Control of the operation of the multifunction communication device includes obtaining user identifying data from the user, associating the user identifying data with the user's personal user contact data located in a memory, and performing a function of the communication device using the personal user contact data of the user.

Abstract: A multifunction device includes a multifunction controller, a first interface for receiving input data from at least one scanner and a second interface for outputting processed input data to at least one printer, wherein the first interface and the second interface are each a standard interface. In a presently preferred embodiment the first interface is comprised of a SCSI interface. The multifunction device further includes a graphical user interface for controlling the operation of the multifunction device, including setting operational parameters for the at least one scanner and the at least one printer. Other interfaces are also provided, including one for coupling to a facsimile device for outputting processed input data to the facsimile device, and another interface for coupling to an e-mail port for outputting processed input data to the e-mail port.

Abstract: An application, method and apparatus for revision of attributes of selected objects as controlled by a computer system. The computer system has at least a visual operator interface, an operating system for operating applications within the computer system, and memory for storing the application therein. Selected objects, such as other applications, parts of applications such as cells in a spread sheet, or real objects such as printers, are designated for selected attribute revision. A global change operation for all of the designated objects having properties to be revised is selected. The attributes are revised as desired and the revised attributes are propagated to the designated objects. Also disclosed is a method, apparatus and application for indicating the desired revisions to the attributes using a model object. The model object method, apparatus and application is an alternative embodiment of the invention.
