  • Patent number: 7466966
Abstract: A method for clipping a wideband signal in order to eliminate signal overshots having an amplitude above a predefined threshold before submitting the wideband signal to a power amplifier. The method subtracts, from the wideband signal, filtered pulses in phase with the wideband signal, each filtered pulse corresponding to an overshot, and the amplitude of each filtered pulse being dependant on the amplitude of the corresponding overshot and on the predefined threshold. The subtraction step is repeated at least twice on the wideband signal.

  • Patent number: 7336724
Abstract: The invention relates notably to a method for scaling peak power amplitudes in a signal at a transmitter before submitting said signal to a power amplifier. According to the invention, the method consists in: calculating scaling factors for a pulse train comprising a group of at least two adjacent peaks which power exceed a predefined threshold (TCLIP), said scaling factor for one peak taking into account an influence on said peak which occurs if at least one other peak of said group is applied a scaling factor; applying said calculated scaling factors to said respective peaks of said group.

  • Patent number: 7292836
Abstract: The invention relates to a direct conversion receiver for down-converting a received multi-carrier signal comprising at least a first and a second carrier signal at image carrier frequencies to a base band resulting in that the first carrier signal includes an image signal of said second carrier signal. Further, the known direct conversion receiver comprises at least a first and a second digital down-converter unit for separating the first and the second carrier signal from the down-converted multi-carrier signal after digitization. In order to make such receivers less complex and adjust them for fast time varying szenarios it is proposed to provide an error estimating unit to said receivers for calculating a compensating coefficient representing the quota and/or the phase position of the image signal of the second carrier signal being included in the first carrier signal and to remove the undesired image signal in response to said compensating coefficient.

  • Publication number: 20070242669
Abstract: A method is dedicated to broadcasting multimedia data in multimedia sessions set up in an FDMA/TDMA type communication network comprising cells associated with base stations adapted to broadcast the multimedia data to mobile communication terminals. This method consists in, on the one hand, controlled synchronization, relative to a reference clock, of the times of broadcasting identical multimedia data relating to the same multimedia session in each base station that the multimedia session concerns and, on the other hand, configuration of each of the base stations concerned so that they broadcast the identical multimedia data of the multimedia session during chosen periods by means of at least one chosen common carrier frequency and in at least one common chosen time slot.

  • Patent number: 6922569
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of transmitting calls in a cellular type telecommunications system using a plurality adjacent carrier frequency bands and in which a first cell or a first site uses only a fraction of said frequency bands, the transmitted signals being subjected to peak clipping prior to application to an amplifier of a transmitter system in order to optimize the efficiency of the amplifier. Prior to being applied to the input of the amplifier, the signals (32) to be transmitted for the first cell (or first site) are subjected to filtering (28) so that the power density of the peak-clipping noise is not eliminated in adjacent frequency bands (f2, f3) that are unused by said first cell.

  • Patent number: 6885709
Abstract: A method for the linearization of a wide frequency band power amplifier. The frequency band of operation of the amplifier is divided into at least two groups or subbands. The instantaneous frequency of each sampled input signal is measured in order to determine the group or subband to which it belongs, and predistortions are applied to the input signal, these predistortions depending on the frequency group. The method is particularly useful for the linearization of a power amplifier of a transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6774834
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparing signals (X and Y) to be compared to establish predistortion at the input of an amplifier (12), the signals comprising a signal (X) before amplification and a signal (Y) after amplification by said amplifier. Preparation includes time aligning (22) the signal before amplification (X) with the signal after amplification (Y) before using them to establish said predistortion. The invention preferably operates in two stages, namely a stage of coarse time alignment, in which the signal before amplification (X) is subjected to a time delay comprising an integer number of first time units, and a stage of fine time alignment, in which a delay or advance value of a fraction of the first time unit is determined.
