  • Patent number: 8612164
Abstract: A method of maintaining a pipeline, including estimating a corrosion rate of a pipeline segment, is provided. The method includes analyzing a first data set obtained by inspecting the pipeline segment at a first time and a second data set obtained by inspecting the pipeline segment at a second time subsequent to the first time. A plurality of matched features that include a feature in the first data set and a feature in the second data set is identified. A confidence metric for each of the matched features is calculated. A subset of the matched features is selected based on the confidence metric, a size of the matched features, and/or a desired size of the subset. The corrosion rate of the pipeline segment is calculated based on changes in a geometric characteristic of features within the subset of the matched features between the first time and the second time.

  • Patent number: 8483975
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method implemented by a processor that receives a first set of inputs comprising values associated with wall thickness, the values ascertained through an inspection method for a first zone of a heat exchanger, the first zone comprising a plurality of inspected and uninspected tubes; computes a respective estimate of a likelihood of a leak occurring at the plurality of inspected and uninspected tubes over a time continuum based on the first set of inputs, an age of the inspected tubes, and an accuracy of the inspection method; and provides a visualization of an estimate for a total likelihood of a leak for the heat exchanger based on the estimate for the first zone.

  • Patent number: 8483993
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method implemented by a processor that receives plural sets of values corresponding to plural matched pairs of anomalies from a first inspection and second inspection following the first inspection, a first portion of each pair corresponding to the first inspection and a second portion of each pair corresponding to the second inspection, the plural sets of values corresponding to wall loss information for plural locations of a fluid carrying vessel; computes first and second statistical descriptions of a respective accuracy of the first and second inspections; and computes a revised estimate of the plural sets of values based on the first and second statistical descriptions.
