  • Patent number: 5746290
Abstract: A work platform is supported by a sleeve which is movable along a tower having a plurality of vertically equally spaced rungs. The raising system of the invention comprises two hydraulic rams pivotably attached to the sleeve and equipped with corresponding hooks at the extremity of their piston rods. The rams are activated simultaneously in up and down movement but in alternate directions, bearing in a hooking engagement in turn on the rungs of the tower to pull the sleeve upwards along the tower. When a rung is in the path of a hook in the upward movement, the latter pivots backwards to clear the rung and is pivoted back by means of springs.

  • Patent number: 5744747
Abstract: The invention relates to a slug generating charge incorporating an explosive charge arranged in an envelope and a liner intended to be set into motion by the detonation of the explosive. The liner, whose thickness decreases between a central part and its periphery, is in contact with the envelope. A plate is placed between the explosive charge and the liner. The plate is of a diameter equal to the inner diameter of the envelope and is in contact with the liner at least at the latter's thinned peripheral part. The material of the plate is selected such that it reduces the velocity transmitted to the peripheral part of the liner by the explosive charge upon its ignition.

  • Patent number: 5741120
Abstract: A scroll-type machine is disclosed which is particularly well suited for use as a compressor in refrigeration and air conditioning systems and incorporates a unique arrangement for modulating the capacity thereof. In one group of embodiments the capacity of the scroll-type machine is modulated by relative axial movement between the scroll members so as to form a leakage path across the wrap tips and opposed end plates. In another group of embodiments, modulation is achieved by reducing the orbital radius of one of the scroll members to thereby form a leakage path across the flank surfaces of the wraps. Both types of scroll separation may be accomplished in a time pulsed manner to thereby enable a full range of modulation with the duration of the loading and unloading periods being selected to maximize the efficiency of the overall system.

  • Patent number: 5742645
Abstract: A method for digitally demodulating a complex modulation signal and allowing different parameters to be transmitted thereby. The input signal is baseband filtered and a complex demodulation is performed on the first subcarrier at a frequency Fp to obtain a correction signal, after squaring. The input signal is demodulated around a frequency exactly equal to twice the frequency of the first demodulation in order to obtain output signals which exhibit a frequency error with respect to 2Fp. This frequency error is corrected by multiplication with the previously derived frequency correction signal. The corrected signal is filtered at a frequency lower than 1 Hz, in order to obtain a signal giving the phase error at a frequency 0, that is to say that of the subcarrier at 2Fp. The signal makes it possible to correct the phase of signals which were previously frequency corrected in order to obtain two signals which are complementary to one another and transmitted by quadrature modulation around the frequency 2Fp.

Infiltration is performed at a temperature lying in the range 960.degree. C. to 1050.degree. C., and preferably in the range 1000.degree. C. to 1030.degree. C., under a total pressure of not more than 25 kPa, and preferably equal to 7 kPa to 12 kPa, and the concentration of silicon-containing species in the residual gas is lowered at the outlet from the infiltration chamber, e.g. by injecting an inert gas (via 70).
