  • Publication number: 20070277047
Abstract: An information handling system (IHS) is provided which includes a system processor and a wireless section coupled to the system processor. While the system processor remains in a reduced power state, the wireless section is operable to be powered up to detect the presence of a wireless network external to the IHS and determine if that detected wireless network matches a network included in profile information stored in a memory that is accessible by the wireless section. An indicator is coupled to the wireless section and is operable to provide an indication that a wireless network is present.

  • Publication number: 20070127220
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a SIM module for an information handling system, such as desktop computer, notebook computer or other type of portable information handling system, etc. An information handling system may be assembled so that a SIM module need only be installed into the information handling system when SIM functionality is required to support a GSM type WWAN card, and not installed when such WWAN capability is not needed.

  • Publication number: 20050210299
Abstract: An information handling system (IHS) is provided which includes a wireless section that detects the presence of an available wireless network on which the IHS can communicate. When an initialize scan switch is actuated, the wireless section is powered up to perform a scan while other sections of the IHS remain unpowered. In this manner, an available wireless network can be detected without fully powering up the IHS to check for wireless network connections.

  • Publication number: 20050166076
Abstract: A system, method and software for managing power, operating states and transition within a stylus based information handling system (IHS) are provided. In one aspect, a parking garage operable to detect the presence of an IHS stylus is provided. When the stylus is detected in the parking garage, an IHS digitizer operable to receive stylus input may be operated in a reduced power state. The stylus may include a switch operable in association with the parking garage which enables a stylus power supply to be disengaged when the stylus is parked in the stylus garage. In response to one or more transition events, such as a power down or migration to a reduced IHS operating state, one or more user notifications may be generated in response to a determination that the stylus has been misallocated or is not parked in the stylus garage.

  • Publication number: 20050012532
Abstract: In a method and system for controlling a device coupled to an information handling system, an object is defined to include a hardware and software component having a corresponding hardware operating state and a software operating state. The hardware component is operable to receive at least one hardware input, which is indicative of a target hardware operating state. The software component is operable to receive at least one software input, which is indicative of a target software operating state. A coordination component is included in the software component to receive the hardware and software inputs, and control the operating state of the device in response to the target hardware operating state and the target software operating state.

  • Patent number: 6091812
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for connecting a headset alternately to a telephone line and an audio device. The apparatus includes an audio connector for connecting the apparatus to the audio device, a telephone connector for connecting the apparatus to the telephone line, and a headset connector for connecting the apparatus to the headset. The apparatus also includes a switching circuit connected to the audio, telephone and headset connectors. The switching circuit connects the telephone connector to the headset connector in response to sensing a voltage greater than a predetermined threshold on the telephone line. When the voltage sensed returns to a value less than the predetermined threshold value, the switching circuit reconnects the headset connector to the audio connector.
