  • Patent number: 7830978
Abstract: A method involves performing a plurality of acts. The acts include transmitting a first signal stream to a first channel of a multi-channel communications medium while transmitting a second signal stream to a different second channel of the medium. The second signal stream is substantially temporally correlated to the first signal stream. The method includes receiving an SINR measured at a receiver configured to receive signals from the first channel. The SINR is measured while the receiver received the first signal stream. The method includes determining a channel matrix element between the first and second channels or a ratio of said channel matrix element to a diagonal element of the channel matrix. The act of determining is based on the received SINR.

  • Patent number: 6856947
Abstract: The invention relates to a modem and a method for providing bit loading computation in a multi-carrier communication system, using a plurality of simultaneous different carriers or tones by measuring the signal to noise ratios (SNRs) for carriers and by determining in dependence of the SNR a related number of bits to be allocated to the respective carrier. The method comprises the steps of providing a sliding window having a frequency width able to contain a predetermined number of the carriers, moving the sliding window over the frequency spectrum of the carriers through a plurality of positions of the window with respect to the carrier frequencies, and when the window contains the predetermined number of the carriers and there is at least one further carrier to be positioned in the window as a new carrier for bit allocation, the window is moved such that on entering a new carrier into the window at one of its borders, a carrier already in the window at the other frequency border leaves the window.

  • Patent number: 4894713
Abstract: In a method in which the data related to the image are read in successive blocks, then subjected to orthogonal transformation, the coefficients of the transform obtained being quantized and analyzed according to a certain order and applied in the form of binary signals to a redundancy reducing coder, the signals representing the coefficients of the transform are stored in a memory organized in several blocks, and the contents of said memory are analyzed such that the signals applied to the redundancy reducing coder comprise sets of signals of coefficients taken from a group of blocks, the signals of each coefficient in each set being taken from a separate block belonging to said group of blocks.
