A first content stream may be at a first speed. A request to access the first content stream at a second speed can be received. A second content stream can be generated based on a second speed. The second content stream can be send over a network to be rendered at the first speed by a client device. One or more anchor frames in the first content stream are selected. The second content stream is generated based on the one or more anchor frames. One or more dummy frames can be inserted into the second content stream. Indexing information can be generated to create a second content stream to send over the network.

Abstract: The invention defines a method for leveraging the standard conditional access module interface of a digital TV receiver to deliver IPTV or other TV content without the need of a set top box. An IP-connected interface (“probe”) is used in place of a conditional access module to establish a two-way communication link between the TV and the IPTV headend or other IP content source and to deliver IP content. In an embodiment, the invention covers the specifics of content navigation without requiring any modification of the TV receiver application software or provisioning of IPTV-specific software. Content navigation is achieved by supporting a catalog/grid browsing session on the TV receiver and enabling a flat multiplex navigation, a virtual MPEG multiplex that contains the definition of several available programs but a single video and audio channel is dynamically switched to carry the selected program.

Abstract: Methods and Apparatuses for content protection of broadcast flagged programs for digital television devices that use CableCARDs. In one embodiment, a filter is used to prevent program content in a clear format from being exposed on the CableCARD connector. In one embodiment, broadcast flagged programs in a clear format are filtered for a CableCARD so that no high definition version of the broadcast flagged programs can be easily recorded via the circuitry of the CableCARD. The filter may degrade the broadcast flagged programs, or zero the broadcast flagged programs, or delete the broadcast flagged programs from the transport stream.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for securely configuring the identifier information of products. In one aspect, a method of manufacturing a product, includes: establishing a connection between a data processing system and the product while the product is being manufactured; verifying that an initial set of identifier information stored within the product is valid, where a set of identifier information is capable of being used to control distribution of media which is received by the product; providing, in response to validly verifying the initial set of identifier information, a new set of identifier information for storage in the product, where the providing is secured through the verifying of the initial set of identifier information.

Abstract: A digital television receiving system having a security mechanism which simultaneously handles two or more separate television program signals is described. The system includes a plurality of digital television receiver mechanisms for receiving a plurality of separate digital television program signal transport streams. The system also includes a multiplexer mechanism coupled to the digital television receiver mechanisms for tagging and multiplexing the received program signal transport streams into a single combined signal transport stream. The combined transport stream is supplied to a security mechanism which limits usable access to the combined stream to authorized users. The system further includes a demultiplexer mechanism for receiving an access-allowed combined transport stream from the security mechanism and demultiplexing the combined transport stream into separate transport streams corresponding to the separate transport streams received by the receiver mechanisms.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for managing digital rights under the protection of multiple CA and/or DRM systems. Some embodiments provide secure and robust methods for bridging multiple DRM systems in the digital media content distribution and playback systems. The present invention simplifies content repurposing, after it has been bridged to a secondary DRM system, but still under the control of the original DRM system.

Abstract: An interface device to a broadcast medium uses the Internet Protocol communication layer to communicate with other devices on a network. The device may be associated with a single controlling device on the network, through which other devices on the same network may query and schedule the interface device. The interface device may accept several sources of broadcast or other media, including video and audio, and prepare and normalize the content for used by other devices. Several different physical interfaces may be used to subsequently convert the Internet Protocol communications into useful content streams for various devices, including storage and rendering devices.

A filtering mechanism is provided for filtering and handling multiple asynchronous data streams in a parallel manner.

In one aspect, a method of manufacturing a device, includes: determining a first executable code for the device, the first executable code being one of a plurality of different executable codes that are capable of being executed on the device, the plurality of executable codes having a same overall functionality but different operations which generates different results from same input data; and loading the first executable code into the device. In one embodiment, a connection between a data processing system and the device is established while the device is being manufactured; and the connection is used to load the first executable code and a new set of identifier information in a format compatible with the first executable code into the device. For example, the connection includes a secure authenticated channel established using an initial set of identifier information stored in the device.

Abstract: Conditional access to media content of primary security systems on a secondary networked environment. In one embodiment, a conditional access server is used to provide services to secondary CA clients (e.g., a bridge, a renderer, a storage, or their different combinations) through network connections. Containing data representing the subscriber, a conditional access server recovers entitlement data and/or decryption keys of a primary security system for the conditional access protected content, such as service keys and control words, and/or enforces conditional access to the content by secondary CA clients according to the authorization of the primary security system for the secondary CA clients. In one embodiment, a conditional access system provides delayed authorization for use so that the content can be recorded for later use when authorized and broadcasts rights for use on multiple secondary CA clients.
