  • Patent number: 6641034
Abstract: A card reader of the present invention is useful in a dimly lit light condition, such as in a casino. The card reader includes a front member or bezel made of a fluorescent plastic and a UV lamp for irradiating UV light to the front member. When exposed to UV light, the fluorescent plastic absorbs the UV light and emits light in the visible spectrum. The light emitted from the front member aids a card user in inserting a card into the slot of the card reader in a dimly lit light condition.

  • Patent number: 6641035
Abstract: A card that carries information on it and a card reader that read and/or writes information on the card. The card is made of a fluorescent material that, when receiving UV light, emits light in the visible spectrum. The card reader may have a UV lamp for illuminating the card. The card, illuminated by the UV lamp, glows at a desired state of the card read/write operation. If the card reader is a contactless reader, the reader will irradiate UV light to the card brought in close proximity to the reader. Illuminated by the UV light, the card glows in the hand of a cardholder.

  • Patent number: 6005231
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring radiation doses based upon thermoluminescence which occurs when a thermoluminescence element is heated by a heat source after having been exposed to radiation. A heat energy sensor is provided for the heat source for detecting the heat energy output from the heat source toward the element. Based on the detected heat energy, the temperature of the element is calculated. The calculated temperature is used to determined if remedial action is necessary. For instance, the calculated temperature may be compared with a predetermined optimum heating temperature. If the calculated temperature deviates from the predetermined optimum heating temperature, responsive action is taken. An increase rate of the calculated temperature may also be calculated. The calculated increase rate would be compared with a predetermined heating rate.

  • Patent number: 5950296
Abstract: An unlocking tool for opening a container operates by the action of a lever. The container includes a first half and a second half connected to each other for rotation. The first half includes a latch finger, and the second half has a hole for receiving the latch finger and engaging with it to keep the container closed. The second half also includes a second hole adjacent to the first hole for suspension of said container. The unlocking tool of the invention functions as a lever along which the tool has an effort point, a fulcrum and an acting point. The tool is formed to pass in part through the second hole of the second half and rotate around the fulcrum positioned in the second hole. When the tool is rotated around the fulcrum positioned in the second hole, the acting point of the tool urges the latch finger to release the engagement between the latch finger and the first hole of the second member, thereby opening the container.

  • Patent number: 4747773
Abstract: A vertical shaft kiln utilized in calcining limestone defines a series of processing zones including an upper preheating zone, a first calcining zone, a second calcining zone having a length twice that of the first calcining zone and a material cooling zone, Burners inject burnt gases intermediate the two calcining zones. Major heat transfer to the limestone is accomplished in the first calcining zone by directing a major portion of the burnt gases in counter-current to the material flow therethrough. Minor heat transfer is accomplished in the second calcining zone by directing a minor portion of the burnt gases therethrough in co-current relation with the material. Combustion air is provided through ducts in the material cooling zones and mixed with the minor portion of burnt gases externally of the shaft prior to injection into the burners.
