    Abstract: A taker gripper for loom use, of the type in which a wedge moves axially within a hook. The weft to be drawn, and which is wedged into the narrow V recess formed on one side between the wedge and the hook, is also maintained elastically pressed against the shallow recess that is provided in the outer lower surface of the hook by an elastic blade. The elastic blade, moreover, is fixed by its rear end to the wedge or to the gripper body. The inner surface of the hook on the side opposite the side that comprises the narrow V recess is formed so that it diverges from the corresponding surface of the wedge and from the direction of wedge axial movement.

The device is suitable for operation on terry looms which comprise a feeler pivoted at one end to the device casing and cooperates via a spring with one of a plurality of cams for driving operating levers. This arrangement causes a bridge frame rigid with it to rock a position in which the bridge of the frame is interacting with stop teeth of the operating levers to a position in which there is no longer interaction and in which a metal armature rigid with the feeler rests against an electromagnet supported by the device casing.

Each lever has a shoulder tooth cooperating with a corresponding coupling pin slidable within a guide in the control lever, urged into an active position against the action of a spring by a corresponding selection lever carrying an armature for a corresponding fixed electromagnet. The selection lever cooperates with a ledge on the control lever by way of a spring tending to withdraw the armature from the electromagnet.

The gripping member of the withdrawing gripper has a hook with a wedge which can be axially slid towards and away from the hook to seize and hold the thread, or to clear it. The axial sliding motion of the wedge is controlled by a linkage which is resiliently biased by a spring.

The apparatus comprises a thread guide including a rod having an opening made in one end thereof for the passage of a thread, the other end being pivotally connected with a drive and said rod is mounted in a support disposed intermediate the ends of the rod and arranged so that during a charging operation the ends of the rod are driven through circular motions. The apparatus reduces the thread charging time and also reduces the thread breakage rate, owing to less mechanical action upon the thread.
