Publication number: 20230419967Abstract: Systems and processes for providing textual representations for a communication session are provided. For example, at least one audio input is received at an electronic device, wherein each audio input of the at least one audio input is associated with a respective priority level. A priority level of an audio input detected at a microphone of the electronic device is determined, wherein a highest priority level among the determined priority level and each received priority level corresponding to the at least one audio input is identified. A textual representation of a respective audio input corresponding to the identified highest priority level is obtained, wherein the obtained textual representation is displayed on a display of the electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2022Publication date: December 28, 2023Inventors: Erik D. HORNBERGER, James A. FORREST, Christopher M. GARRIDO, Patrick MIAUTON, Bradley F. PATTERSON, Karthick SANTHANAM, Luciano M. VERGER

Publication number: 20230397270Abstract: Devices, methods, and non-transitory program storage devices are disclosed to enable the automatic establishment of a secure audio/video data streaming connection between electronic devices. For example, a first electronic device may enter into a first state of a peer device advertising protocol, and then, based on a determination that the first electronic device meets a first set of device state criteria (e.g., including at least an orientation state criterion), the first electronic device may enter into a second (e.g., enhanced) state of the peer device advertising protocol. In response to detecting a presence of a second electronic device in its proximity, the first electronic device may connect to the second electronic device via a secure peer-to-peer connection protocol and then send one or more images captured by a first image capture device of the first electronic device to the connected second electronic device via the secure wireless peer-to-peer connection protocol.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 2, 2023Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Christopher M. Patent number: 11410700Abstract: A video playback buffer adjustment system is disclosed. The video playback buffer has a target size, measured in units of time of content, and includes a compressed frames queue and an uncompressed frames queue. The uncompressed frames queue has a minimum threshold queue size. If the size of the uncompressed frames queue falls below the minimum threshold size, then a next encoded frame in the compressed frames queue is removed from the compressed frames queue, decoded, and enqueued in the uncompressed frames queue. If a current size of the playback queue exceeds the target size plus ? (a hysteresis value), then a playback frame rate is increased, and a presentation time of one or more frames in the uncompressed frames queue is adjusted according to the increased playback frame rate. If the playback queue size is less than the target size minus ?, the playback speed can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2021Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Gurtej Singh G. Publication number: 20210400338Abstract: A method and apparatus of a device that uses a video jitter buffer to buffer the video frames for a received video stream is described. The device uses the video jitter buffer to estimate the delay variability of the frames and pick a target delay that will help harmonize the playback with minimal loss and delay. This is achieved by estimating the delay spread, which is the result of performing statistical analysis of the measured lags of the video frames received. The video jitter buffer provides target delay recommendation and reference frame information to the video player in order to anchor the playback and schedule the frames presentation time.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2021Publication date: December 23, 2021Inventors: Luciano M. Patent number: 10880379Abstract: Methods and apparatus to manage communication sessions to handover between a direct connection at a secondary wireless device and a relayed connection to the secondary wireless device via a primary wireless device. A connection manager of a secondary wireless device can trigger transfer of a communication session based on measurements of performance metrics for the communication session. Upon detection of performance degradation in a local connection or a backhaul connection or both, the connection manager of the secondary wireless device can determine proximity of and/or capabilities for connections of the primary wireless device and instigate transfer of the communication session between different connection types, such as between a direct connection and a relayed connection. The transfer of the communication session can occur without user intervention or in response to input from the user without interrupting or reestablishing the communication session.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2018Date of Patent: December 29, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Luciano M. Patent number: 10064112Abstract: A user equipment (“UE”) connected to a first network that performs methods including receiving a page from the first network indicating an incoming voice call, when it is determined the voice call was not successfully connected, incrementing a value of a counter and when the value satisfies the threshold, switching from the first network to a second network. Another method includes originating a voice call via the first network, when it is determined the voice call was not successfully connected, opening a socket connection with the first network and attempting to re-originate the voice call via the first network. Another method includes determining whether the UE has switched a connection from a first network to a second network and when it is determined that the UE has switched the connection to the second network, initiating an action by the UE.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2015Date of Patent: August 28, 2018Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Giri Prassad Deivasigamani, Gencer Cili, Muhammad A. Patent number: 9860485Abstract: In video conferencing over a radio network, the radio equipment is a major power consumer especially in cellular networks such as LTE. In order to reduce the radio power consumption in video conferencing, it is important to introduce an enough radio inactive time. Several types of data buffering and bundling can be employed within a reasonable range of latency that doesn't significantly disrupt the real-time nature of video conferencing. In addition, the data transmission can be synchronized to the data reception in a controlled manner, which can result in an even longer radio inactive time and thus take advantage of radio power saving modes such as LTE C-DRX.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2015Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Chris Y. Patent number: 9596638Abstract: Apparatus, system and methods for evaluating link quality within a cellular system. A user equipment (“UE”) is connected to a network, wherein the UE communicates data to the network on an uplink (“UL”) link. The UE determines a requested buffer size for a UL communication, determines a transport block size for the UL communication based on a primary set of allocation parameters, and compares the requested buffer size to the transport block size to determine if a data rate for the UL communication satisfies a threshold. When the data rate satisfies the threshold, the UE identifies the UL link as a good quality link and sends acceptable link quality feedback to the network. When the data rate does not satisfy the threshold, the UE performs a further action to test a quality of the UL link.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2015Date of Patent: March 14, 2017Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Navid Damji, Shivesh Makharia, Luciano M.
