Abstract: A vehicle battery monitoring system and method comprises: calculating, based on the battery voltage only, the battery state of health, the battery state of charge, and the voltage decay rate; comparing the calculated battery parameters with their previously established limits; and providing a warning sign when any parameter is different from its previously defined limit. The calculated voltage decay rate is used to appraise standby current that drains the battery. The system allows monitoring a battery beginning from its installation and provides the driver indications about the necessity of maintenance or replacement thereof, exclusively based on the battery voltage, measured at specific times of the vehicle operation.
