  • Publication number: 20060096965
Abstract: The present invention concerns the nose-piece of a laser-beam drilling head for a drilling machine, emitting a pulsed laser beam, where the drill head includes a resource which is suitable for mounting the nose-piece, where the nose-piece includes a first laser beam entry opening and a second pulsed laser beam exit opening and a beam focussing resource arranged upstream of the second opening, characterised by the fact that a mirror is positioned in the optical path of the laser beam downstream of the said beam-forming resource, so that the emerging beam forms an angle of less than 180° with the entering beam, and where the nose-piece includes a laser-beam fluid assisting feed that is arranged so that the said fluid is emitted via the second opening in the direction of the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 4124200
Abstract: A converter for refining a liquid metal bath using simultaneous heating and blowing in comprises a metal vessel internally lined with refractory material, having an upwardly open mouth and having a generally cylindrofrustoconical shape which is a body of revolution about an axis, the vessel being mounted on, and rotatable about, its axis of revolution relative to a pivotable cradle, the vessel having a pouring spout and a set of tuyeres extending through a wall thereof, and a separate frustoconical cap connected to a gas collection hood for surmounting the vessel and provided with an opening through which a heating device can extend into the vessel, the arrangement being such that in the `normal` position of the vessel, for simultaneous blowing in and heating, the axis of revolution of the vessel is at an angle between 35.degree. and 55.degree. to the vertical, the pouring spout is upwardly directed, the tuyeres extend upwardly from the bottom of the vessel and the vessel is surmounted by the cap.

  • Patent number: 4097323
Abstract: A butt-splicer for butt-joining a fresh web to a progressing web, wherein the progressing web is pulled about a web-supporting roller and the fresh web is introduced between the progressing web and the web-supporting roller, and the cutting, and the taping of both webs occur within the angle of wrapping about the web-supporting roller, thereby to produce accurate splices.

  • Patent number: 4090869
Abstract: In a process of manufacturing an alloy steel, particularly stainless steel, in an electric arc furnace, in a first stage the furnace charge is brought to a molten state, in a second stage ferro-alloy in divided form is continuously supplied to the molten charge and simultaneously a refining fluid is blown into the charge, and in a third stage the molten charge is decarburized, if necessary, to give the required carbon content, and chromium oxide in the slag is reduced.
