  • Patent number: 4162272
Abstract: A dry liquid propane substantially free from HF, organic fluorides and water is produced by bringing into intimate contact with a sodium hydroxide solution containing not more than about 5 percent by weight NaOH a liquid propane stream obtained by heating a stream of the propane containing organic fluoride and bringing said stream in contact with a defluorinating agent, e.g., aluminum fluoride, to produce a stream of propane containing HF, the stream of propane containing organic fluorides having been obtained from a hydrogen fluoride stripper operated in conjunction with a depropanizing zone wherein an HF alkylation hydrocarbon product stream or effluent is depropanized. In an embodiment only a relatively small volume of propane containing HF is contacted with the aqueous sodium hydroxide solution whereupon the intermingled fluids are immediately passed into a body of settling propane and aqueous sodium hydroxide solution in a settling zone or vessel.

  • Patent number: 4033727
Abstract: A generally ring-like baffle is located in the bottom of a radial flow catalytic reactor around the central apertured product removal conduit. The annular space between the removal conduit and the baffle is partially filled with solid catalyst support. Above the catalyst support is the catalyst. This prevents feedstock from either bypassing the catalyst completely in the area adjacent the bottom of the reactor or forming hot spots as a result of the normally low rate of flow travel in this section of the reactor.

  • Patent number: 4021201
Abstract: The flow rate of the oxygen-containing gas to a process for the oxidation of the hydrogen sulfide in a sour gas to sulfur is regulated responsive to the lower of the sour gas pressure signal and a signal representing the value of the sour gas flow rate as modified by the ratio of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide in the gaseous reaction effluent, to maintain the desired ratio of hydrogen sulfide to oxygen fed to the process. The sour gas flow rate can be regulated responsive to the higher of the sour gas pressure signal and the oxygen-containing gas flow rate signal.
