  • Patent number: 3981127
Abstract: Apparatus for gathering from the ground oranges and like citrus fruits and for placing the same in tubs or the like. The apparatus comprises generally laterally directed conveyor-collector mechanisms each comprising chains or the like carrying groups of individually mounted gathering tines. These tines move inwardly and then upwardly, moving the fruit not only inwardly but raising it. At the top of their path of movement the fruit is discharged from the tines onto a transverse conveyor and thence onto a longitudinal extending conveyor. Receptacles, such as large tubs, are located in stacks adjacent the side of the longitudinal conveyor. Means is provided to discharge the fruit from the conveyor into a tub beneath the forward or rearmost stack and means is provided for discharging the filled tubs, laterally of the direction of the apparatus, without stopping the apparatus or its fruit gathering motions.
