Patent number: 7625258Abstract: A lamp electrode adapted to deliver mercury during an assembly process has a supporting electrical lead attached to the proximal end of a metallic shell. The proximal and a distal ends of the metallic shell each lie along a central axis. A container with a vitreous plug in a sealed end contains a substance for delivering mercury upon heating of the container. The sidewall of the container is attached to the electrical lead. The longitudinal axis of the container is skewed relative to the electrical lead to orient the container in a direction to reduce discharge of mercury directly toward the metallic shell. The container is heated to open it and discharge a mercury dose from the sealed, end, which is prone to opening upon heating of the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2006Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: E.G.L. Company Inc.Inventor: Ludwig P. Kiermaier

Patent number: 6837726Abstract: A lamp holder that can receive a discharge lamp has an insulating body that can work with an electrically conductive junction box. The junction box has a bottom, an opening opposite the bottom, and one or more sidewalls circumscribing the opening. The insulating body is sized to fit at least partially into the box, and has a flange sized to surmount and circumscribe the sidewalls that circumscribe the opening. The insulating body has (a) a cavity with a lamp entryway, and (b) a wire passageway providing access into the cavity. The wire passageway may travel partly underneath the cavity, or through a portion of the wall having a relatively greater wall thickness (or may travel otherwise.) A lamp contact is mounted in the cavity for electrically engaging the discharge lamp.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2003Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: E.G.L. Company, Inc.Inventor: Ludwig P. Publication number: 20030020402Abstract: A lamp can be built with a collection that includes an electrode adapted to sustain bombardment from a stream of charged particles during an assembly process. The collection includes a metallic electrode shell attached to a supporting electrical lead. A tubular glass body encircling the shell has a rear tube extending away from the shell. The electrical lead is mounted in the glass body. A glass capsule is adapted to fit in the rear tube. The capsule has therein a conductive member that can be confined to the rear tube. The conductive member can be heated in order to open the glass capsule. The capsule contains a substance for delivering mercury upon opening of the capsule. The capsule is locatable in the rear tube at an offset distance from the metallic shell in order to avoid premature mercury delivery during bombardment of the metallic shell during the assembly process. One end of the rear tube can be sealed with the capsule loaded therein.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2001Publication date: January 30, 2003Inventor: Ludwig P. Kiermaier

Publication number: 20030020406Abstract: A lamp electrode is adapted to sustain bombardment from a stream of charged particles during an assembly process. The electrode has a mercury-dispensing carrier mounted on a non-conductive collar that is attached to the distal end of a metallic electrode shell. The carrier is arranged to deliver mercury upon heating. The carrier is spaced from the metallic shell by an offset distance in order to avoid premature mercury delivery from the carrier during bombardment of the shell during the assembly process.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2001Publication date: January 30, 2003Inventor: Ludwig P.
