  • Patent number: 6548119
Abstract: A process for producing a two-layer coat on a motor vehicle body in an automatic motor vehicle series lacquering unit. The process comprises the steps of applying an aqueous base lacquer coating composition to the motor vehicle body, exposing the aqueous base lacquer coating to a circulating air at 25 to 45° C. having an air throughout of 0.10 to 0.70 m/s for 30 to 180 seconds, applying a transparent finishing lacquer layer of a clear lacquer coating composition to the aqueous base lacquer layer, and baking the aqueous base lacquer and transparent finishing lacquer layer.

  • Patent number: 6368719
Abstract: A process for preparing a multi-layer coating on an electrically conductive automotive body or an electrically conductive automotive body part by applying a cathodic electrodeposition coating layer, optionally a further coating layer and an outer clear coating, in which the cathodic electrodeposition coating layer of a cathodic electrodeposition coating composition is applied which, as the cathodic electrodeposition binder, contains a seed polymer with an amine value of 30 to 100 mg KOH/g and a hydroxyl value of 50 to 200 mg KOH/g, which can be prepared by radical polymerisation of 70 to 97 wt-% of a monomer mixture comprising hydroxy-functional olefinically unsaturated monomer and amino-functional olefinically unsaturated monomer in the presence of 3 to 30 wt-% of an aminoepoxy resin.

  • Patent number: 5908667
Abstract: Process for producing a multilayer lacquer coating, in which a primer of an electrophoretically depositable aqueous coating agent (1) is electrophoretically applied on to an electrically conductive substrate and is then stoved, whereupon a color-giving and/or effect-producing base lacquer coat of an aqueous coating agent (II) is applied and stoved and this coat is then provided with one or more clear lacquer coatings, in which processa) as the coating agent (I), a coating agent which, in the stoved state, will produce an electrically conductive primary coat is used,b) the base lacquer coat is formed by an electrophoretically depositable aqueous coating agent (II) by a process of electrophoretical deposition,c) the overall dry layer thickness of the dry lacquer coat or dry lacquer coats is about 40 and 80 .mu.m, andd) the overall dry layer thickness of the multilayer lacquer coating is about 80 to 110 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5882734
Abstract: In a process for producing a multilayer lacquer coating, eg for motor vehicles, a first coating layer of an aqueous coating agent (1) is electrophoretically applied on to an electrically conductive substrate and is then stoved. As the coating agent (I), a coating agent which, in the stoved state, will produce an electrically conductive coating layer is used. An electrically insulating second coating layer of an aqueous coating agent (II), which differs from (I), is electrophoretically deposited and stoved. A third basic lacquer coating layer of a colour-giving and/or effect-producing coating agent is applied, and a fourth transparent coating layer of a clear lacquer coating agent is applied, the last-mentioned two coats being stoved together. One or more further transparent coating layers may be applied.
