  • Patent number: 8302445
Abstract: The invention relates to a roll stand and a method for rolling a rolled strip. The roll stand (100) comprises at least one roller housing on the drive side (AS) and one roller housing on the control side (BS) of the roll stand. It also comprises bending devices which are each firmly connected to spars (2) of the roll stands for treating and bending an upper and/or lower work roller of the roll stand (100) relative to the roller housings. The bending devices and thus the work rollers are controlled via a control device. To be able to control or regulate the bending devices and/or work rollers more precisely, and thus to improve the quality of the rolled strip after rolling, it is suggested according to the invention that a bending force strain gauge be placed appropriately for direct measurement of the actual bending force affecting the work rollers (7, 8) via the bending devices (11).

  • Patent number: 7757531
Abstract: Rolling stand for producing rolled strip, which includes work rolls, which are supported on backup rolls or intermediate rolls and backup rolls. The work rolls and/or the backup rolls and/or the intermediate rolls can be axially shifted relative to one another. The barrel length (L) of each intermediate roll in a six-high rolling stand or of each work roll in a four-high rolling stand has a cylindrical roll barrel section (Z) and a convexly curved roll barrel section (R(x)), such that the transition point from the cylindrical to the curved roll barrel section, calculated from the cylindrical end of the roll barrel, is in the range of L/2?x<L. The curved contour, which extends towards opposite ends of the two rolls over a portion of the barrel, is described by a polynomial R(x)=ao+ . . . anxn, where n?5.

  • Patent number: 7690235
Abstract: In a method of cooling and/or lubricating of rolls and/or rolling stock according to which a cooling medium is applied to the rolls from a plurality of nozzles/nozzle rows, on one hand, and for lubrication, on the other hand, base oil is applied to the rolling stock in front of a roll gap, wherein the nozzles/nozzle rows are adjusted separately and independent from each other the cooling medium is applied to the rolls separately from the base oil, and finally, the base oil without water as a base medium is applied directly to the rolling stock over an entire width thereof in a very small amount in comparison with a conventional amount. To this end, media separating means is arranged between the nozzles/nozzle rows for applying cooling medium to the rolls and the nozzles/nozzle rows for applying base oil to the rolling stock.

  • Patent number: 7472574
Abstract: A method of and a rolling mill stand for cold rolling of a metallic rolling stock (1), in particular rolling strip (1b) with nozzles for gaseous or liquid treatment media, with which the rolling stock (1) is displaced under a processing temperature through a roll gap (40) of a roll pair of upper working roll (2) and lower working roll (3) to undergo plastic deformation, and which permits in addition to a rolling stock surface improvement, the lubrication and surface protection of the rolling stock (1) and the rollers (2, 3) by a reduction in roll separating, with introduction of deep-chilled media, whereby deep chilled inert gas (41), ambient temperature inert gas (41a), lubricant emulsion (42), of admixed base oil, or oil-free, non-residue evaporating hydrocarbons are introduced against the sides (2a; 3a) of the working rollers (2, 3), and/or the rolling gap (40), and/or the rolling stock (1) in groups of jets from individual rows of nozzles (6a to 22b) for lubrication, cooling, and for inerting.

  • Patent number: 7434435
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for applying an adjustable tensile-stress distribution, in particular in the edge regions during the cold-rolling of metal strips (16), in particular metal foil, in order to reduce the risk of an excessive build-up of tension and cracks at the edges of the strip, which can lead as a negative consequence to cracks in the strip and to a reduction in production, and in order to improve the surface of the strip and its planarity, even for a relatively high strip displacement speed, and also to reduce strip trimming widths.

  • Publication number: 20080000281
Abstract: The invention relates to a Sexto-type roll stand with x3 grinding, in which a large difference in diameter between the intermediate rolls (20, 21) causes increased wear and rough surfaces on the support rolls (31, 31) during operation, the damage pattern on the support rolls (30, 31) corresponding to the shape of the CVC grinding following an extended operating time. In Quarto-type roll stands, the grinding amplitude is initially also significantly greater than is required for rolled programs, thus resulting in the unfavorable wear pattern as well on the support rolls. The aim of the invention is to minimize said flaws. Said aim is achieved by the fact that the surface length (L) of each intermediate roll (20, 21) in a Sexto-type roll stand or each working roll in a Quarto-type roll stand is composed of a cylindrical section (Z) and a convexly curved section (R(x)).

  • Patent number: 6216519
Abstract: A roll for a roll stand including a roll shaft with at least one roll ring mounted on the roll shaft, wherein the roll shaft is axially displaceable. The roll stand for rolling a metal strip may be, for example, a two-high stand, a four-high stand or six-high stand. The surfaces of at least two of the inner roll components enclosed by an outer roll ring have contours which are curved in the axial direction, wherein the curved contours are turned relative to each other by 180°.

  • Patent number: 6142003
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling hot-rolled rolling stock, wherein, for cooling preferably both sides of hot-rolled wide strip, a heat exchange is carried out between the rolling stock and the cooling medium by a pressurized water flow through a sequence of a pressure chamber and a convection chamber, and wherein the rolling stock is cooled by a targeted control of the intensity of the forced convection. The method utilizes a combination of a cooling unit between stands and an additional roll cooling unit in the area of the roll gap at the exit side thereof using a directed pressurized water flow along a circumferential portion of the roll body of each work roll, wherein the cooling unit between stands and the roll cooling unit each operate with contactless sealing means for the surface of the rolling stock and the surface of the roll body.

  • Patent number: 5056748
Abstract: A molded plastic holder for printed material includes a substantially flat support panel which is designed to be mounted to any vertical surface. Molded as part of and integrally joined to the support panel along a lower edge is a first curved clip which curves outwardly at its base so as to provide a clearance space to receive the material and then extends inwardly in order to create a pressure point which presses against any material placed in the holder in order to retain the material securely in place. Also molded as part of and integrally joined to the support panel is a second curved clip of virtually identical construction to the first curved clip. The clips each have an inherent spring tension which allows each clip to be easily pulled forward for the insertion of material into the holder and to spring back to apply the desired holding force. Snap-on legs are used when the holder is to be table-mounted.
