  • Patent number: 4762746
Abstract: A fire resistant fire-retarding laminate includes foaming-agent layers combined with at least one restricting layer, which restrains expansion of the foaming-agent layer under heat and fire exposure and improves the mechanical integrity of the composite without any substantial heat induced expansion of its own. Instead of glass or graphite fillers, special non-graphitic carbon fillers are used in fibrous or platelet-like form. Incompletely carbonized material amoung others can be used. Such fillers provide improved restraint on the expansion of the foaming-agent layer and cooperate to preserve its structural integrity.

  • Patent number: 4657623
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus of manufacture of fiber reinforced tubular bodies which comprise in combination at least on cover layer and at least one core layer; said layers being wound upon a winding mandrel the shape of which corresponds to the desired shape of the hollow body. The method includes the use of a control unit which comprises a compression tunnel adapted to reduce the thickness of the core and cover layers thereby applying compressional and tensile forces simultaneously to the layers resulting in a more homogeous and therefore stronger bond between the layers.

  • Patent number: 4547526
Abstract: In order to improve the flame-protection effect without substantially impairing the mechanical properties of the articles covered with the flame protection agent, the flame protection agent is provided with a compound in a proportion by weight of 7.5 to 30% which contains at least one sulfo group or sulfonium ion. This compound is preferably a water-soluble ammonium salt. As binder there is used an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion of an organic material, particularly of an acrylate or of a polymer or copolymer having a base of acrylic acid ester. It is particularly advantageous if substantially open-cell polyurethane foam having a base of polyether is impregnated with such a flame-protection agent which contains an ammonium salt of an aminosulfonic acid in a proportion of about 12%. Polyurethane foams impregnated in this manner are particularly well suited for use in cushionings of articles or in premises for which class B1 fire protection is required.

  • Patent number: 4486553
Abstract: There is disclosed, in one aspect, an emulsion of a hydrophilic epoxy resin containing foam forming additives which impart fire retardant properties and which compositions are useful for coating substrates. These compositions comprise (a) foam-forming, gas-evolving and/or chain-terminating additives which have an endothermic reaction at elevated temperatures and/or fillers and, (b) epoxide resin as the binder. This resin has been cured with an amine curing agent. In another aspect, the present invention comprises a method for producing fire-proof layers of structures which must be protected from fire. This method comprises coating at least part of that structure with the composition described above.

  • Patent number: 4292364
Abstract: A multi-layer load-bearing board comprising at least three layers of different composition includes a core or basic layer comprised of a cementitious inorganic material, a cover layer of a fiber-reinforced resin subjectable to forces and an intermediate layer of a hydrophilic and water-dilutable or water miscible resin interconnecting the core or basic layer and cover layers in a force-transmitting manner.

  • Patent number: 4123587
Abstract: A method is provided for producing a fine granular concentrate of fire-retarding, foam-forming solids for addition to host material including plastics, paints, coating compositions and the like by mixing particles of solid fire-retarding additives of particle size less than about 5.mu.m with a polymeric material wherein the particles are surrounded and coated by said polymeric material, said polymeric material being compatible with or the same as the host material to which the coated particles are subsequently added to confer fire-retarding and foam-forming properties thereto. The steps include drying said polymeric-particle mixture, comminuting said polymeric-particle mixture to a granular product of less than about 50.mu.m, and repeating the coating procedure at least one more time on said granular product by mixing said granular product with polymeric material, followed by drying and comminuting said granular-polymeric mixture to provide a granular concentrate having a size of less than about 50.mu.
