  • Publication number: 20100295766
Abstract: A display backlight is described which produces white light of a specified color point and from light sources of different chromaticities and in which the red wavelengths emitted by the light sources are emitted by light sources of two or more chromaticities from the group of at least three different chromaticities and arranged to be driven with the result that visible, red-colored artifacts are reduced at boundaries of high image contrast when the backlight is coupled to further display components and used for display of a grey scale image. The invention allows production of a display with an adjustable white color point but which also does not suffer from distracting red, fringe-like artefacts reported by users of displays comprising white backlights produced from red, green and blue light sources. A display incorporating the backlight is also described.

  • Patent number: 7227550
Abstract: A processing module converts an input signal, which is generated in a computer system device, into a digital output signal at a video output. The digital output signal is adapted to be visualized by a display device. The processing module includes a scaler for scaling a resolution of the output signal to match a resolution of the display device. The processing module can be combined with a display adapter which incorporates a graphical processor and memory. Furthermore, the processing module may include a selector for selecting a resolution for the output signal, corresponding to a resolution of the display device.

  • Publication number: 20060039622
Abstract: A two-dimensional enhancement function (HEF; VEF) determines a peaking factor (CX; CY) for an input signal (L(m,n)) based on the output signals of both a first edge detector (HHP; VHP) and a second edge detector (HBP; VBP) which both operate in the same first spatial direction. In this manner, all different kind of borders which may occur in the input signal (L(m,n)) in the first spatial direction are distinguished. The two-dimensional enhancement function (HEF; VEF) allocates values which determine the amount of peaking to the different combinations of the output signals (ZX, DX; ZY, DY). It is possible to select the values allocated by the two-dimensional enhancement function (HEF; VEF) different for different kind of borders to obtain the desired amount of peaking fitting each kind of border best.

  • Patent number: 6980195
Abstract: An LCD monitor has an LCD panel for displaying a display video signal, and a lighting unit for illuminating the LCD panel. A personal computer, for example, supplies an input video signal and a control signal indicating that the brightness of a portion of the display video signal has to be increased. The LCD unit increases the light output of the lighting unit by a predetermined amount when the control signal indicates to do so. The system further includes an amplifier to decrease an amplitude of the video signal outside the portion when the control signal indicates to do so. In this way, it is possible to increase the brightness of the portion of the displayed picture corresponding to the portion of the video signal with respect to the rest of the displayed picture.

  • Publication number: 20050231655
Abstract: In a novel liquid crystal cell overdrive method, the actual voltage, on the liquid crystal cell (11), resulting the previous frame drive operation is measured, and the amount of the overdrive voltage is evaluated from this actually measured voltage. This method allows implementing the overdriving method without the use of a frame memory because it uses the intrinsic capacitance (CLC) of the liquid crystal cell (11) as a memory element. Moreover, this method allows a more accurate overdrive amount because its evaluation is based on the actual voltage present at the liquid crystal cell (11) resulting from the previous frame.

  • Patent number: 6847738
Abstract: In a method of sharpness enhancement, an input signal (s) is filtered (HLHP, VLHP) to obtain a filtered signal (zx, zy), the filtered signal is multiplied (M2, M3) by a controllable fraction (cx, cy) to obtain multiplied signals, and the multiplied signals are added (A2) to the input signal (s). The controllable fraction (cx, cy) is generated by a non-linear function (HCF, VCF).

  • Publication number: 20040189624
Abstract: A computer system (11) comprises a computer (2) and a monitor (5), the computer being provided with a mouse (4) as an input device, the monitor being provided with On Screen Display (OSD) facility. The computer is adapted to send control information (MSI) regarding the status of the mouse to the monitor. The monitor is adapted to evaluate the control information (MSI) received from the computer, and to adjust a relevant operational parameter.

  • Publication number: 20020097210
Abstract: An LCD monitor (MON) has an LCD panel (LP) for displaying a display video signal (VS2), and a lighting unit (LU) for illuminating the LCD panel (LP). A personal computer (PC) supplies an input video signal (VS) and a control signal (CI) indicating that the brightness of a portion of the display video signal (VS2) has to be increased. The LCD unit (MON) increases the light output of the lighting unit (LU) by a predetermined amount when the control signal (CI) indicates to do so. The system further comprises an amplitude-modifying means (AM1;AM2;CU) to decrease an amplitude of the video signal (VS;VS2) outside the portion when the control signal (CI) indicates to do so. In this way, it is possible to increase the brightness of the portion of the displayed picture corresponding to the portion of the video signal with respect to the rest of the displayed picture.
