  • Patent number: 7464738
Abstract: A tire for a wheel of a vehicle includes a carcass, a belt structure, and a tread. The tread pattern includes at least two circumferential grooves and at least three circumferential ribs. The grooves include a zigzag configuration and a shape repeated according to a circumferential pitch. Within a single pitch, each groove includes at least two directions different from a circumferential direction of the tire, generating at least two ground-gripping fronts in each of two rotation directions of the tire, and at least one blind transverse cut extending from opposite sides of the groove, generating a third ground-gripping front. Ends of the blind transverse cuts are positioned on planes parallel to each other and to an equatorial plane of the tire. The first plane and the second plane delimit a continuous portion of at least one of the circumferential ribs. The continuous portion includes a constant axial width.

  • Patent number: 6957676
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tire designed to be fitted on the driving axles of a motor vehicle for medium or heavy load. This tire is provided with a tread comprising a plurality of full-depth transverse grooves and four circumferential series of inclined grooves and four circumferential series of inclined incisions which delimit five circumferential rows of blocks, namely two axially outer rows, two intermediate rows, and one central row lying essentially across the equatorial plane. Each transverse groove extends across the whole width of the tread, and consists of a central portion, located between a pair of consecutive blocks of the central row, and a pair of lateral portions, located between pairs of consecutive blocks of the intermediate and shoulder rows. The two lateral portions of each transverse groove are staggered circumferentially with respect to each other and penetrate into the body of the central row of blocks.

  • Patent number: 6761197
Abstract: A tyre for vehicles includes a carcass structure, a belt structure, and a tread. The tread includes a row of central blocks and a row of intermediate blocks arranged on each side of an equatorial plane of the tyre between a central longitudinal groove formed astride the equatorial plane and a pair of longitudinal lateral grooves. The blocks of the central rows are separated from the blocks of the intermediate rows by circumferential sipes and are circumferentially staggered by a first predetermined quantity relative to the blocks of the intermediate rows. Also, the blocks of the central rows arranged on a first side of the equatorial plane of the tyre are circumferentially staggered by a second predetermined quantity relative to the blocks of the central rows on a second side of the equatorial plane of the tyre.

  • Patent number: 6736175
Abstract: A vehicle wheel tyre includes a carcass structure, a belt structure, and a tread. The tread includes four circumferential grooves and a plurality of transverse grooves that define at least five circumferential rows of blocks, each block approximating a polygon. The longitudinal sides of the blocks are inclined in the same direction at a predetermined angle to the equatorial plane of the tyre. The blocks of each row are circumferentially staggered relative to the blocks of the next row. The blocks of the central row include stiffening means. Profiles of the front sides of the blocks of the central row are the same as the profiles of the rear of the blocks of the central row rotated through 180°. The blocks of the shoulder rows are elastically linked to the blocks of the intermediate rows.

  • Publication number: 20030094227
Abstract: In a tyre designed for fitting on the front axles of a motor transport vehicle, a tread is provided comprising three circumferential (5,6,6′) grooves with a zigzag configuration, delimiting four circumferential ribs (7, 7′, 8, 8′). Each zigzag groove extends, within a single pitch, in at least two directions separate from the circumferential direction and is crossed by opposite parts of a blind transverse cut (16). These separate directions of the zigzag groove and these blind transverse cut form ground-gripping fronts. Additionally, the ends of the blind transverse cuts (17, 18) belong to one zigzag groove and facing the same side of the groove are all positioned on a plane parallel to the equatorial plane and the two planes on which the ends of the blind transverse cuts of two axially adjacent circumferential grooves are aligned delimit a continuous rib portion, with a constant axial width, which is free of sipes, cuts, or similar.

  • Publication number: 20030056867
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tyre designed to be fitted on the driving axles of a motor vehicle for medium or heavy transport. This tyre is provided with a tread (3) comprising a plurality of full-depth transverse grooves (9) and four circumferential series of inclined incisions (5, 6, 7, 8) which delimit five circumferential rows of lugs, namely two axially outer rows (11, 12), two intermediate rows (13, 14), and one central row (10) lying essentially across the equatorial plane. Each transverse groove (9) extends across the whole width of tread, and consists of a central portion (20), located between a pair of consecutive lugs (19) of the central row (10), and a pair of lateral portions (21, 22), located between pairs of consecutive lugs (40) of the intermediate and shoulder rows. The two lateral portions (21, 22) of each transverse groove are staggered circumferentially with respect to each other and penetrate into the body of the central row (10) of lugs.

  • Patent number: 6415834
Abstract: A tire (1) having low rolling resistance, in particular for driving wheels of heavy vehicles, comprises a tread (14) provided with a plurality of transversal grooves (20) pitchwise spaced from one another and extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the rolling direction of the tire (D). The grooves (20) have a reduced depth and are provided with respective slits (24), extending from a bottom portion (21) thereof; as such, they contribute to impart to the tire (1) both the desired low rolling resistance and an adequate traction characteristics during straightaway running.

  • Patent number: 6203640
Abstract: A tire tread band for medium/heavy duty motor-vehicles having circumferential grooves confining three pairs of respectively center, intermediate and shoulder ribs. Respective tread blocks are defined along the center and intermediate ribs and they are confined by transverse cuts. The center cuts impart a cusp-shaped end conformation and a hollow-shaped end conformation to the respective blocks, and the shapes of said end portions mutually match. The intermediate cuts run in the linear extension of the center cuts to give the respective blocks a rhomboidal configuration. The tire can be alternately associated with a driving axle or a driven axle, by merely reversing its direction of rotation, so that the following results are selectively achieved: an increase in the traction capability by the intermediate blocks or an increase in the directional capability as a result of the mutual wedging between the center blocks at the ground-contacting area.
