The apparatus comprises an interface (13) configured for receiving data on operation of the electrical system and a processing unit (15) configured to: perform a time-domain analysis of the data; if at least one time-domain parameter of the data meets a potential arc fault condition, enabling the detection of an arc fault event based on a frequency-domain analysis of the data.
