  • Patent number: 4709797
Abstract: A friction clutch driven plate for rotation about a central axis and having an intermediate disc with a central opening lined by axial splines to engage external splines on a rotary motion output shaft. A first annulus co-axial with the intermediate disc has axial projections which key into bores in the disc so the annulus and disc rotate in synchronism. On the other side of the intermediate disc and co-axial therewith is a second annulus. The disc has axial projections keying into notches in the inner periphery of the second annulus so the latter also rotates in synchronism with the disc. A carrier carrying annular friction facings comprises first and second axially spaced plate arrangements between which are sandwiched the intermediate disc and the annuli. There is some allowance for relative rotary motion between the carrier and the intermediate disc against torsion damping springs.

  • Patent number: 4684006
Abstract: A friction clutch driven plate comprises first and second disk-like carrier plates rivetted together and having first and second flat spokes respectively on their peripheries. A single integral annulus of friction material is held in place by the first spokes in a first recess in a first face of the annulus and by the second spokes in second recesses in an opposite second face of the annulus. The carrier plates are also connected together by stop rivets passing through arcute slots in a third disc between the carrier plates. In known fashion torsional vibration damping springs are disposed in windows in the carrier plates and the third disc. The third disc has a central hole lined by splines to engage similar splines on a shaft. First and second bearing bushes are disposed in the central openings of the carrier plates.

  • Patent number: 4662497
Abstract: A friction clutch comprises a driving member incorporating first and second cover members joined together and forming an enclosure therebetween. Within the enclosure are a first driven plate, an intermediate pressure plate, a second driven plate and a main pressure plate. In the engaged condition these components are all clamped together by a belville spring. A release rod acts on the main pressure plate to move it against the spring and release the clutch. The main pressure plate is driven by straps from the second cover member while the intermediate pressure plate is similarly driven by straps from the first cover member. This arrangement allows the clutch to be handled in two major sub-assemblies. The first of these includes the second cover member, the spring and the main pressure plate. The second incorporates the intermediate pressure plate and the first cover member.

  • Patent number: 4562913
Abstract: A friction clutch driven plate incorporates a hub, an intermediate drive plate connected to a flange of the hub through a toothed lost-motion connection and a friction facing carrier incorporating two side plates. Main torsion damping springs act between the intermediate plate and the side plates. Soft auxiliary torsion damping springing acts between the hub and the intermediate plate to damp out idle rattle. Location between the friction facing carrier and hub is provided by an inward extension of one side plate while the auxiliary springing is arranged adjacent the flange and inward of the other side plate to provide a compact construction.
