  • Publication number: 20120277710
Abstract: Absorbent members and methods of making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the absorbent member is a unitary absorbent fibrous web having a density profile through its thickness. In one embodiment, the density profile is relatively centered through the thickness of the web and the maximum density of the web is located between about 35% and about 65% of the distance through the thickness of the web. In one embodiment, the method involves subjecting a precursor web to at least one cycle (or pass) through a mechanical deformation process. Typically, the method involves subjecting the precursor web to multiples cycles (or passes) through a mechanical deformation process.

  • Publication number: 20120277709
Abstract: Absorbent members and methods of making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the absorbent member is a unitary absorbent fibrous web having a density profile through its thickness. In such an embodiment, the density profile of the fibrous web is skewed toward one of the surfaces of the fibrous web. In such embodiments, the maximum density of the web may be located outside of the central 30% zone of thickness of the web.

  • Patent number: 7648752
Abstract: A composite web adapted for use as a component in a disposable absorbent article is disclosed. The composite web comprises a first fibrous layer and a second layer, the first and second layers each comprising a body-facing side and a garment-facing side and are disposed in a face to face relationship to form a laminate. The first fibrous layer comprises a fibrous web of randomly oriented fibers with respect to an X-Y plane, and a plurality of discrete regions of fiber reorientation at least on the body-facing side thereof, and a plurality of fibers having portions reoriented in a direction substantially orthogonal to the X-Y plane and extending toward the garment-facing side.

  • Patent number: 6958430
Abstract: A substantially flat disposable absorbent article for wearing adjacent a body discharge area having a longitudinal centerline, and a lateral centerline orthogonal thereto, and defining longitudinal and lateral directions respectively. The disposable absorbent article includes a liquid pervious top sheet, a back sheet joined to the top sheet, and an absorbent core intermediate the back sheet and the top sheet. The absorbent core includes a layer of compressed, cellulose based, linear fibers for expanding the article into a tridimensional structure while being worn by a user. The layer of compressed, cellulose based, linear fibers is activated by body fluids.

  • Publication number: 20030204178
Abstract: The present invention relates to disposable absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, baby diapers, adult incontinence articles and sweat pads. According to the present invention the absorbent article in the region designated for liquid deposition on its wearer facing surface has a single layer topsheet onto which liquid to be absorbed is provided during use of the article. The absorbent article includes a backsheet forming the liquid barrier surface and a unitary absorbent core between the topsheet and the backsheet. Importantly the unitary core provides improved liquid handling to the absorbent article and increases the masking, i.e. ability to hide stains due to absorbed liquid, of the article. This is particularly beneficial in the context of articles for absorption of liquids with high color intensity, such as menstrual liquid or urine of older adults.

  • Patent number: 6627791
Abstract: A resilient, three dimensional, perforated plastic webs which allow passage of water vapor and preferably air, and are resistant to the transmission of aqueous fluids at least in one direction. According to the present invention the perforated plastic webs consist of a liquid impervious polymeric film having open and closed capillaries. More than half of the capillaries are closed and preferably shorter than the capillaries with aperatures, and provide the resilient three dimensional web with an increased resistance crush and to collapse the capillaries under compression. The resilient, three dimensional, perforated plastic webs can be used as one of the layers of a backsheet in an absorbent articles, such as, sanitary napkins, pantiliners. baby diapers, adult incontinence, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20030171518
Abstract: The present invention relates to branched copolymers based on unsaturated nitrites and conjugated dienes which are characterized in that the content of bonded unsaturated nitrile is 15 to 50 wt. %, the Mooney viscosity ranges from 15 to 150 MU [ML 1+4/100° C.], the chain branching ranges from 0 to 20° (determined by the &Dgr;&dgr;B value) and the solubility is ≧85 wt. % (measured in methyl ethyl ketone at 20° C.).

  • Patent number: 6570059
Abstract: The present invention relates to breathable absorbent articles like baby diapers, adult incontinence articles and in particular to sanitary napkins or pantiliners. According to the present invention the articles are provided with an apertured backsheet for breathability. At least one of the breathable layers of the backsheet comprises a resilient, three dimensional web which consists of a liquid impervious polymeric film having apertures. The apertures form capillaries which are designed such that the backsheet provides an increased barrier to liquid passage out of the article and maintains water vapor permeability when the web is exposed to compressive pressure.

The breathable disposable absorbent article comprises at least a first backsheet layer and a second backsheet layer. At least one of the breathable layers of the backsheet comprises a resilient, three-dimensional web, which consists of a liquid impervious polymeric film having apertures. The apertures form capillaries, which are not perpendicular to the plane of the film but are disposed at an angle of less than 90° measured from the plane of the film.
