  • Patent number: 5996386
Abstract: The edging or tapering equipment requires that each of the two shaped pads, for the plastic deformation of the two edges of a respective can body, be positioned so that the longitudinal axis of the pads lies at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the can body located in an operating position zone, and that the pads be set at opposite angles to one another; each of these shaped pads also moves independently, rotating and traversing around and along their respective longitudinal axis and simultaneously traversing along a determined longitudinal axis so as to obtain, at an operating contact position, induced rotation of the can body in a direction concording with the rotation of the shaped pads and designed to allow contact between each operating head and the respective edge in a zone for the definition of the profile of said edge, a profile which is created gradually, by simultaneous linear traversing and rotation of the shaped pads along the axis.

  • Patent number: 5451086
Abstract: A manufacturing machine operating at high speed and using a feed system with suction cups can be fitted with an air delivery system in which the single suction cup is mounted directly to a three-way valve affording a first passage open to the cup, a second passage coupled to a vacuum pump and a third passage connected to a source of compressed air; the second and third passages can be connected in alternation to the first passage, in such a manner that the cup will release swiftly and positively as suction generated by the vacuum pump is neutralized by the rush of air.

  • Patent number: 5277532
Abstract: The device comprises a flat block with a pair of rods carrying two respective teeth, reciprocated as one in the direction followed by cans conveyed from a forming station to the welding station by a pair of chain loops driven at constant operating speed; from a fully retracted position, in which the rods engage the rolled shell of the can essentially at standstill, or in any event at minimal velocity, the block accelerates to an intermediate position at which its velocity reaches a calculated maximum and is matched substantially to that of the chains, whereupon the can is taken up by the chains and the block decelerates in the same direction toward a fully extended position before reversing.

  • Patent number: 5240364
Abstract: The cylindrical bottom end of the magazine is embodied in two distinct sections, upper and lower, which remain united during operation; the upper section is rigidly associated with the main body of the magazine, whilst the lower section is anchored permanently on one side to the frame of the machine by way of a sliding and hinged bracket that can be retracted sideways from a first limit position, in which the two sections are stably and coaxially aligned, to a second limit position in which the lower section is distanced from the upper section to a point where it can be rotated clear.

  • Patent number: 5237147
Abstract: An electronic device for controlling and monitoring the electric power supply to welding equipment includes an inverter driven by a rectifier that supplies voltage to the primary winding of a welding transformer. A secondary winding of the welding transformer delivers welding current that is a function of the voltage applied to the primary winding. The inverter is also interlocked to and piloted by a regulator in such a way that an essentially square wave voltage signal appears with a succession of paired pulses in each half-period of the fundamental frequency, alternately positive and negative and of a given absolute crest value and finite spacing. A periodic welding current is produced of which the pulses are triangular, all positive or negative within the same half-period, and geared to rise and fall once during each cycle of two paired alternating voltage pulses, such that fundamental frequencies can be reduced without loss of operating speed.

  • Patent number: 5150594
Abstract: A carousel type head revolving about a vertical axis and skirted by a fixed reaction sector is equipped with work stations, each comprising a system of brackets to support the cylindrical tin can and a mandrel consisting in a shaft with an interchangeable outer barrel of diameter notably less than the internal diameter of the can, by which the revolving metal body is pinned against the fixed sector to bring about its deformation; the mandrel and brackets of each station rise and fall synchronously in mutual opposition between respective limit positions, each traversing through a vertical distance substantially equal to half the height of the production can.

  • Patent number: 5092511
Abstract: A translation device for can bodies consisting in a supporting group, on one end, a pushing element of the same and jointed on the opposite end, to a supporting structure and connected, in of its intermediate points, to crank movement mechanisms which allow the group itself to make a pendular trajectory which is alternatively positive and negative according to the advancement of the can bodies, between two opposite positions, one being the operative pick-up position of the can bodies and the other being the dropping-off of the same; a drive cam element is foreseen to act on the pushing element in such a way as to permit the same pushing element to carry out a rectilinear trajectory of can body engaging interference when it crosses the positive trajectory, and of non-interference when the pushing element crosses the negative trajectory.

  • Patent number: 4714816
Abstract: The invention relates to the art field of resistance welding utilizing rollers in conjunction with a continuous copper wire electrode and effected with welding current that remains constant on average, at least within each half-period. According to the invention, the weld between members (generally tinned metal strip) can be monitored by measuring the current that flows through the circuit created by the electrode wire, this being a function of the welding resistance that registers between the welding rollers; the value of the current thus measured is compensated in respect of the inductive effects produced by the magnetic field originating from the welding current, and relayed in digital form to a microprocessor that compares it with given maximum and minimum limits within which the reading must fall for quality of the weld to be assured.

  • Patent number: 4614293
Abstract: The device comprises several sets of shaped rollers disposed on parallel circumferences. The rollers of one of said sets are gauged and innerly define a circumference the diameter of which is equal to that of the cylindrical box-shaped elements to be shaped. In order to ensure a perfect welding of the cylindrical box-shaped elements, some of the gauged rollers are powered at a constant speed. These powered gauged rollers mesh with each other by means of their respective toothing and only one of them is powered by a powered toothed belt which moves the welded box-shaped elements away from the shaping device.
