Abstract: Ignition apparatus 10 includes high tension ignition cable 56. The cable 56 is of low electrical resistance per unit length. A central core 100 of the cable 56 is formed of carbon fibre filaments. An insulating layer 110 is provided around the core 100. A semiconductor layer 120 is provided around the insulating layer 110. Another insulating layer 130 is provided around the semiconductor layer 120. A layer of yarn around the other insulating layer 130 forms a protecting layer 140. A protective layer 150 of a flame retardant material forms an outer layer of the cable 56. The ignition apparatus 10 also includes one or more of: a field stabilizer device 30 for stabilizing and regulating high tension voltage in the cable 56; resistor spark plugs 60; connectors fitted to ends of the cable 56 that include resistors therein, such as resistor spark plug boots.
