    Abstract: A device for operating an electric motor (10) is proposed, which evaluates overloading or blocking of the drive (11) from a characteristic of a current (40, 41) flowing through the electric motor (10). In accordance with a first embodiment, the determination of the characteristic is provided within a time interval (TI)′ the time interval (T:) occurring within the starting operation after a starting instant (To) of the electric motor (10). In accordance with another embodiment, the determination of the characteristic is provided at a prescribed sampling instant (TA) which occurs at a prescribed delay time (Tv) after a starting instant (To).
