    Abstract: An engine and lubricating oil having superior anti-wear properties without necessitating use of phosphorus-containing anti-wear additives is provided which is particularly useful in automotive, industrial, and gear lubricants. The anti-wear engine and lubricating oil comprises an anti-wear component including benzotriazole or the reaction product of benoztriazole, combined with a formaldehyde-containing component and at least one primary or secondary aliphatic amine, a sulfur-containg compound, a metallic component, and a lubricating base oil.
