  • Publication number: 20140243709
Abstract: A pressure sensing pad or mat comprises a piezoresistive layer, a top electrically conductive layer comprising a plurality of electrically conductive top strips extending in a first direction along one side of the piezoresistive layer, a bottom electrically conductive layer comprising a plurality of electrically conductive bottom strips extending in a second direction, nonparallel to the first direction, along the other side of the piezoresistive layer, and top and bottom adhesive layers holding the top and bottom strips against the piezoresistive layer so as to inhibit relative displacement of the strips relative to the piezoresistive layer and relative to each other. Also disclosed are a method of manufacturing the pressure sensor pad, a pressure sensing system that employs the a sensor mat, and a pressure map display for displaying a pressure distribution of an object resting on the pressure sensing mat.

  • Publication number: 20140237722
Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a cushion, a cover arranged over a top side of the cushion, and a sensor unit. The sensor unit is coupled to the cover and arranged to underlie a patient supported on the cover. The sensor unit includes a sensor configured to detect conditions near the interface of a patient's skin with the cover.

  • Publication number: 20140059766
Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a surface and a pneumatic system cooperating to provide a microclimate system for reducing moisture at the interface of a patient and the surface. The patient support apparatus further includes a graphical user interface and control circuitry. The control circuitry is configured to adjust operation of the microclimate system in response to sensor outputs from sensors included in the microclimate system and caregiver inputs from the graphical user interface.

  • Publication number: 20130263378
Abstract: A method for detecting occupant position change on a support surface includes establishing a rate of change of pressure in a head end test zone and in a foot end test zone, comparing the head end rate to at least one head end rate limit, comparing the foot end rate to at least one foot end rate limit, and inferring, in response to the comparing steps, whether or not occupant migration has occurred. An associated occupant support includes a frame and a mattress. The mattress includes head and foot zones each having at least one pressurizable bladder. The support also includes a controller adapted to compare a head end rate of pressure change to a head end rate limit, to compare a foot end rate of pressure change to a foot end rate limit, and to infer, in response to the comparing steps, whether or not occupant migration has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20120283840
Abstract: A partial rim implant for an acetabulum in a pelvic bone comprises a ridge, a bearing surface, and a fixation surface. The ridge is oriented to replace a labrum. The bearing surface is configured to align with the articulating surface of the acetabulum. The bearing surface extends from the ridge toward the apex of the acetabulum. The fixation surface is configured to fix the implant to a prepared bone surface of the pelvic bone.
