Abstract: Systems and methods for receiving batches of sample containers (e.g., blood culture bottles), sorting the sample containers, and discarding negative sample containers in a safe, secure, and consistent manner are disclosed. Additionally, systems and methods to accurately and precisely determine the amount of sample inoculated into a container are disclosed. For example, an apparatus determines the amount of blood inoculated into a blood culture bottle by weighing and/or obtaining an image of the blood culture bottle inoculated with blood sample. Such an approach facilitates automation, as a user does not need to visually inspect each bottle.
