  • Publication number: 20180165028
Abstract: A method, according to one embodiment, includes: establishing a wireless connection between a wireless receiver in a solid state drive and a mobile device, receiving configuration instructions from the mobile device via the wireless connection, sending the received configuration instructions to a processor in a second device via a physical electrical connection coupling the second device to the solid state drive, receiving data from the second device via the physical electrical connection coupling the second device to the solid state drive, and storing the data in a memory of the solid state drive according to the received configuration instructions. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in additional embodiments.

  • Publication number: 20180107258
Abstract: An apparatus for voltage regulation device adjustment includes a configuration module that determines a configuration of an electronic device, where determining the configuration includes determining which components are installed and information about the installed components. The electronic device includes a voltage regulator device (“VRD”) providing power to one or more of the components. The apparatus includes an environment module that measures one or more environmental variables relating to an operating environment of the electronic device. The apparatus includes a firmware selection module that selects new firmware for the VRD of the electronic device in response to the determined configuration and measured environmental variables, and a firmware update module that replaces previously installed firmware on the VRD with the new firmware. The new firmware includes control settings for the VRD.

  • Publication number: 20180107470
Abstract: An apparatus for voltage regulation device adjustment includes a rating module that determines an efficiency score for a current firmware of a voltage regulation device (“VRD”). The efficiency score describes a power efficiency for the VRD based on a configuration of an electronic device where the VRD is installed. The apparatus includes a comparison module that compares the determined efficiency score for the current firmware with a predetermined efficiency score for a different firmware for the VRD. The apparatus includes a firmware module that selects the different firmware for the VRD in response to determining that the VRD is less efficient with the current firmware than with the different firmware based on the comparison of the efficiency score for the current firmware with the predetermined efficiency score for the different firmware.

  • Publication number: 20180107476
Abstract: An apparatus for voltage regulation device adjustment includes an external factor module that determines external factors, where the external factors include conditions external to an electronic device that affect operating performance and operating costs. The electronic device includes a voltage regulator device (“VRD”) providing power to one or more components of the electronic device. The apparatus includes a firmware selection module that selects new firmware for the VRD of the electronic device in response to the determined external factors, and a firmware update module that replaces previously installed firmware on the VRD with the new firmware. The new firmware includes control settings for the VRD.

  • Publication number: 20180088958
Abstract: An apparatus, system, method, and program product for managing peripheral devices using a data protocol is disclosed. A connection module determines one or more communication bus cables that communicatively couple one or more peripheral devices to an information handling device. A data module reads a data packet associated with a peripheral device over each of the one or more communication bus cables. Each data packet includes an identifier for a location where the peripheral device is installed. A topology module determines a cable connection configuration for the one or more communication bus cables and the one or more peripheral devices based on the installation location identifier received from each of the data packets associated with the one or more peripheral devices.

  • Publication number: 20180088639
Abstract: An apparatus for reconfiguring a computing device includes an inventory module, a thermal analysis module, and a reconfiguration module. The inventory module detects one or more locations for one or more non-volatile memory express (“NVMe”) devices. The one or more NVMe devices are coupled to a plurality of slots such that at least one of the slots is empty. The one or more NVMe devices thermally affect one or more further components of a computing device. The thermal analysis module determines one or more thermal characteristics for a current configuration and for one or more possible reconfigurations. The current configuration includes locations of the one or more NVMe devices and the one or more further components. The reconfiguration module selects a reconfiguration from the one or more possible reconfigurations based on the one or more determined thermal characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20180081849
Abstract: An apparatus, system, method, and program product for verifying a communication bus connection to a peripheral device are disclosed. The apparatus includes a data module that receives, over a communication bus, an identifier for a location where a peripheral device is installed. The peripheral device is communicatively coupled to an information handling device using the communication bus. The apparatus includes a verification module that compares the identifier received over the communication bus to a predefined identifier associated with the communication bus. The apparatus includes a notification module that sends a notification in response to the identifier received over the communication bus not matching the predefined identifier associated with the communication bus.

  • Publication number: 20180074981
Abstract: An apparatus, system, method, and program product are disclosed for associating data buses and management buses for peripheral devices. A command module sends a command to a peripheral device to trigger activity on the peripheral device. The peripheral device is communicatively coupled to an information handling device using a separate data bus and a management bus connection of a management bus. The command is sent over the data bus to the peripheral device. A monitor module checks the management bus of the information handling device to determine which management bus connection is connected to the peripheral device that was active in response to the sent command. An association module associates the determined management bus connection with the data bus on which the command was sent and with the peripheral device.
