Abstract: A method for remotely updating firmware of a field programmable gate array (FPGA) includes: by a controller, transmitting a storing instruction and relaying an entry of configuration data received from a remote device to a processor of the FPGA; by the processor, performing an updating subtask to store a file segment recorded in the entry of configuration data in an update-storage area indicated by location information recorded in the entry of configuration data; by the controller, determining whether the processor has successfully completed the updating subtask, and when affirmative, enabling the remote device to transmit another entry of configuration data; and repeating the aforementioned steps.

Abstract: A computer system includes a central processing unit, a memory bus, a memory unit, and a boot select unit. The memory bus is coupled to the central processing unit. The memory bus includes a plurality of data lines and a plurality of address lines. The central processing unit is capable of accessing data through the plurality of data lines and the plurality of address lines. The memory unit includes a plurality of memory blocks. Each of the plurality of memory blocks includes a start address and an end address for storing a BIOS program. The boot select unit is coupled to the memory bus and to the memory unit for selecting a BIOS program stored in one memory block from the plurality of memory blocks to boot the computer system according to a control signal.

Abstract: A data protection method includes switching a power source of a dual bank DRAM to a battery when external power fails, and placing a bank 1 of the dual bank DRAM into a self refresh mode. A data protection method further includes checking if a power failure occurred previously when a computer is turned on, initializing the bank 0 of the dual bank DRAM and initializing the SMI routine, and enabling the bank 1 of the dual bank DRAM if a power failure occurred. Thus, valuable data retained in the DRAM is prevented from being damaged or lost.
