  • Publication number: 20210353217
Abstract: Devices and systems for characterizing a condition of spinal deformities are contemplated. Mobile devices that incorporate inclinometers or accelerometers (e.g., a smart phone) are held securely in a supporting structure that renders it useful to characterize spinal deformities such as scoliosis and/or kyphosis. Supporting structures can include features that secure the mobile device (for example, chamfered surfaces, high friction surfaces, pliant projections, straps, hook and loop enclosures, tensioning devices, detents, etc.) in an upper portion and a lower portion that includes at least one, but preferably two or more rollers, and an interposing centrally placed notch dimensioned to permit the assembled device (supporting structure and mobile device) to span the width of a typical human spinal column. At least one roller includes an encoder (e.g.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for characterizing a condition of spinal deformities are contemplated. Mobile devices that incorporate inclinometers or accelerometers are held securely in a supporting structure. Supporting structures can include features that secure the mobile device in an upper portion and a lower portion that includes at least one roller, and a centrally placed notch dimensioned to permit the assembled device to span the width of a typical human spinal column. The roller includes an encoder that provides a measure of distance travelled as the device rolls. The support device can include additional features, such as additional sensors that are accessible by the mobile device, a centrally placed guide that can be used to keep the assembled device in alignment during use, and supplementary battery power for the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9468403
Abstract: An all-solid, single-body unit for calibrating a pulse oximeter that uses probe light beams is provided. A bulk of the unit is substantially composed of a mixture of materials comprising one or more polymer materials that form a flexible solid medium for the bulk of the unit, one or more scattering materials for scattering the probe light beams, and one or more dye materials for attenuating the probe light beams. The flexible solid medium enables a pulsatile rhythmic train of action force received by the unit to be transmitted in the unit during calibrating the pulse oximeter for substantially emulating change of absorbance characteristics of the probe light beams due to pulsing arterial blood. The scattering materials and the dye materials are localized in the flexible solid medium, enabling the unit to be used in calibrating the pulse oximeter without a need for an additional device for further emulation.

  • Patent number: 8879060
Abstract: A Raman signal detection and analyzing system and a method thereof are disclosed. The Raman signal is generated by emitting an excitation light to a sample. The Raman signal is then modulated by passing through a plurality of optical filter and modulator. The resulting modulated Raman signal comprises two orthogonal components, which intensities are to be computed based on the first harmonic of said modulated Raman signal. The content of a specific analyte within the sample can then be determined based on the ratio of the intensities of the two components.

  • Publication number: 20130303921
Abstract: The present invention discloses a device for measuring physiological data of a subject. It comprises a light modulation unit, an optical detection unit and a signal processing unit. The present invention can operate in an active mode or a passive mode to measure a subject's heart rate, respiratory information, haemoglobin level, cardiac output or oxygen saturation of the blood, etc. Fourier Transform based lock-in technique is used to detect the physiological signals reliably even when the signal is weak. In addition, ambient light can be used as the light source to complete the measurement.
