  • Patent number: 9489777
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for detecting the impact of an object on a vehicle, which comprises a hose filled with a filling medium. The device also comprises a first pressure sensor which is connected with a first end of the hose and a second pressure sensor connected with a second end of the hose. An electronic control unit is connected with the first and the second pressure sensor and is designed for the processing of the signals received by the first and the second pressure sensor. The hose is sealed off with respect to the environment and the first and the second pressure sensor, so that the internal pressure of the filling medium is independent of an ambient pressure. The electronic control unit is designed for processing temperature-caused changes of the internal pressure as a criterion for the diagnosis of the operability of the device.

  • Patent number: 7362882
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for generating a computed digital image of a scene, which can be illuminated with different luminous intensities at a first illumination angle by a first light source. An image sensor records a number of individual images of the scene under different lighting conditions, and these images are set against one another in a pixel-by-pixel manner in a data processing device in order to generate a resulting image. The invention is characterized in that at least one additional light source is provided by means of which the scene can be illuminated at an illumination angle that is different from the illumination angle of the first light source. The different lighting conditions when recording the individual images are obtained by various combinations of luminous intensities of the first and of the at least one other additional light source. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the inventive method.

  • Patent number: 6577142
Abstract: In a process for capacitive object detection in a vehicle seat, capacitors arranged in the backrest and in the seat surface are influenced by an object. The capacitors are acted upon by alternating voltage, and the time variation of their capacitances is determined individually. From the values of each of the two capacitances, an evaluation of the object is derived by means of a value table and, when the two evaluations correspond to one another concerning the type of an object, an occupant protection system assigned to the seat is correspondingly activated.

The capacitors are acted upon by alternating voltage and their capacitance is determined individually. From the value of each of the two capacitances, an evaluation of the object is derived by means of a value table. When the two evaluations correspond to one another (concerning the type of an object), an occupant protection system assigned to the seat is correspondingly activated or deactivated.

  • Patent number: 6437695
Abstract: In a method for capacitive object recognition in vehicles, two capacitive electrodes are charged with alternating voltage and the presence of an object is detected by the change in the capacitance in the capacitor. The two electrodes are charged sequentially and individually with alternating voltages. The alternating currents that result in the leads of the two electrodes are analyzed jointly.

  • Patent number: 6402195
Abstract: In a device for adjusting a vehicle's head support with reference to the position of a passenger's head, with a sensor disposed in the head support for detecting the position of the head, the sensor contains two condenser plates which are arranged one above the other and are part of a condenser, in which the head of the passenger acts as a dielectric. In the method for the adjustment of the vehicle's head support, the height is varied, starting from a rest position with the head support retracted, to such an extent that the increase of the sensor signal of the one condenser plate takes place simultaneously with the decrease of the sensor signal of the other condenser plate.

  • Patent number: 6335684
Abstract: A capacitive object detection system for a vehicle has first and second capacitive electrodes embedded in the vehicle seat. The two electrodes are excited by oppositely phased alternating voltages, which are adjusted by a controller such that the resulting alternating currents in their respective feed lines are substantially equal and oppositely phased. The presence, size and location of an adjacent object is then determined based on an analysis of the impedances of the first and second electrodes.
