Patent number: 11794579Abstract: A driving system is operatable at least in a first automated driving mode with automated longitudinal and/or lateral control, and in a different second automated driving mode with automated longitudinal and/or lateral control. The driving system has a steering wheel display with luminous elements for illuminating the steering wheel, which can be operated in different illumination states that are distinguishable by the driver. The luminous elements may illuminate the steering wheel rim, and are typically integrated into the steering wheel rim. The driving system specifies which illumination state of the different illumination states the steering wheel display has. The driving system specifies that, during operation of the driving system in the first driving mode, the steering wheel display is illuminated in a first illumination state.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2019Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Marc Breisinger, Julian Eichhorn, Philipp Kerschbaum, Lutz Lorenz, Stephan Mueller, Julia Niemann, Philipp Suessenguth

Patent number: 11415983Abstract: A driving system for an automated drive for a motor vehicle has an indicator for marking regions on the steering wheel, in particular on the steering wheel rim. The indicator is preferably an optical steering wheel display which is integrated into the steering wheel rim for example. During an automated drive, the driving system is designed to ascertain that the vehicle has approached an end of the automated drive lying ahead in such a manner that a first approach condition has been satisfied. If the system has ascertained that the vehicle has approached the end of the automated drive in such a manner that the approach condition has been satisfied, the indicator for marking regions on the steering wheel are actuated in response thereto such that a left and a right marking region on the steering wheel are marked. The driver is thus prompted to position their hands on the marked regions of the steering wheel in order to take over the task of driving.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2019Date of Patent: August 16, 2022Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Marc Breisinger, Nora Broy, Julian Eichhorn, Sebastian Hergeth, Philipp Kerschbaum, Hermann Kuenzner, Lutz Lorenz, Stephan Mueller, Julia Niemann, Frederik Platten, Wolfgang Spiessl, Philipp Suessenguth

Patent number: 11345383Abstract: A driving system for an automated drive for a motor vehicle includes a steering wheel display with a lighting strip structure. The lighting strip structure of the steering wheel display is luminous in a defined lighting color for a duration which can be modified according to the actuation. The driving system is designed to control the steering wheel display such that the lighting strip structure is luminous in the lighting color over a starting length during the automated drive. Upon approaching an end of the automated drive lying ahead, the driving system determines that the vehicle has approached an end point of the automated drive lying ahead in such a manner that a specified approach condition has been satisfied.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2019Date of Patent: May 31, 2022Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Marc Breisinger, Nora Broy, Julian Eichhorn, Sebastian Hergeth, Philipp Kerschbaum, Hermann Kuenzner, Lutz Lorenz, Stephan Mueller, Julia Niemann, Frederik Platten, Wolfgang Spiessl, Philipp Suessenguth

Publication number: 20180208212Abstract: A user interface device is configured to select an operating mode for an automated drive in a motor vehicle. The user interface device has a switching device to switch over between different driving automation stages of a motor vehicle, a selection device to determine at least one driving parameter in order to configure the driving automation stage selected by the switching device, and a display device which interacts with the selection device in order to display available selection possibilities for the at least one driving parameter when configuring the selected driving automation stage. It is thus possible to select and configure one of multiple driving automation stages of the motor vehicle even in the event of a plurality of such stages and configuration possibilities for the stages using a simple and space-saving operating design with only two different input types; namely, the switch-over between the driving automation stages and the configuration process using the selection device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2018Publication date: July 26, 2018Inventors: Philipp Suessenguth, Lutz Lorenz, Marc Breisinger, Julia Niemann, Julian Eichhorn

Patent number: 9174567Abstract: A motor vehicle with a device for influencing the viewing direction of the driver has a hazard detection and warning output device and a display unit for displaying information contents and/or entertainment contents. The display unit is arranged essentially centrally in the dashboard of the motor vehicle. The passenger compartment of the motor vehicle has a lighting device that is suitable for outputting a dynamic light animation and extends essentially from the display unit to the driver's field of vision on the windshield of the motor vehicle. A light animation that constitutes a movement of light in the direction of the driver's field of vision can be outputted, in order to output a warning about a hazard that relates to or could relate to what is happening on the road in front of the motor vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2013Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Lutz Lorenz, Thomas Lindberg

Patent number: 9099002Abstract: A vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, has a device for influencing the attention of the driver. The vehicle includes a display unit for displaying information content. The vehicle includes a central operating panel associated with the display unit. The vehicle includes a system for detecting a danger in traffic. The vehicle includes a system for issuing a warning regarding a detected danger, and the vehicle further includes a computing unit. The computing unit ascertains a viewing probability of the driver looking in the direction of the display unit during an operating sequence and at a viewing point in time. The computing unit takes the interaction of the driver with the vehicle into consideration for ascertaining the viewing probability. The warning is issued as a function of the ascertained viewing probability.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2014Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Lutz Lorenz
