  • Patent number: 6325499
Abstract: An ink cartridge for a printer includes a casing containing a porous ink storage body. A bottom wall of the cartridge casing has an opening therethrough for communication with a print head. An area of the inside face of the bottom wall around the opening has a plurality of grooves that open to the opening. The area is covered by a sieve against which the porous body is held in contact.

  • Patent number: 6059916
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ink cartridge assembly including applying plastic foils to opposite surfaces of a sheet of foam while heating the foils to a temperature above the melting temperature of the foils using a heating press, stamping out a foam body from the sheet, and inserting the body into an ink cartridge housing. Alternatively, the surfaces are covered with a perforated or porous varnish coating or with composite foils of first and second layers having different melting temperatures where the layer with the lower melting temperature is disposed against the sheet of foam.

  • Patent number: 6010211
Abstract: An ink cartridge for an ink jet printer has a housing containing an ink storage space. An upper portion of the ink storage space is closed off by a cup-shaped membrane. A pressure reduction valve is built into a housing bottom. The storage space communicates via the pressure reduction valve with a chamber which has an opening sealed by a rubber plug. During installation of the cartridge in the print head, the rubber plug is pierced by a hollow needle so that ink may pass from the chamber to the print head. The reduction valve ensures a predetermined underpressure in chamber. This facilitates reliable operation of the print head, even with fluctuating ambient temperature, and provides efficient space utilization within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5883652
Abstract: The device comprises a cylinder (1) which is filled less than half with ink (2). In its initial state, there is directly above ink (2) a piston (3) with piston rod (4) and handle (5). At the lower end there is arranged at the cylinder (1) a hollow needle (6) with a sealing ring (7). For re-filling of a print head (10) its nozzle openings (11) are sealed and needle (6) is adjusted through an opening of lid (13) up to sealing abutment of ring (7). The piston (3) is pulled up and the air from the print head (10) is thereby suctioned through the ink (2). As a result of the negative pressure, the ink (2) is then suctioned into head (10). The device has a simple design.

  • Patent number: 5847735
Abstract: An ink cartridge for a printer comprises a casing having a cover with an opening for admitting air into the interior of the casing. An outer face of the cover has a meander-shaped capillary groove which extends from the opening to an S-shaped capillary channel. The outer face of the cover is covered by a foil seal which overlaps one of the transverse edges of the cover. Two cuts through the foil extend from opposed longitudinal edges into areas between two of the transverse branches of the channel.
