Patent number: 9641646Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for facilitating communication of multimedia data across a distributed network. When the invention is employed for facilitating intra-communication between mobile network carriers, the invention can be configured to utilize a plurality of distribution sites. A first distribution site of a sender can receive an item of multimedia data and an identifier from a sender. The first distribution site may then transmit the identifier to a look-up server in order for the look-up server to identify the location of a recipient's distribution site. Once the look-up server identifies the recipient's distribution site for the first distribution site, the first distribution site can transmit the multimedia data to the recipient's distribution site.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2014Date of Patent: May 2, 2017Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Lyle Bertz, John Belser, William Parsel

Patent number: 8799372Abstract: A method is disclosed for pre-sending content size information so that content objects that might exceed the client device's resources are not sent in subsequent content transmissions. For example, a network node may receive from a content server a content message directed to a client device, wherein the content message includes a plurality of object references, each referencing respectively an object that is not contained in the content message. The network node may determine an object size of at least one of the objects and a supported content size for the client device. Based upon the determined object size and the determined supported content size of the client device, the network node may modify the content message by removing the object reference referencing the at least one object and then send the modified content message to the client device.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2008Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Sprint Spectrum, L.P.Inventors: Piyush Upadhyay, Badri P. Patent number: 8656499Abstract: Bit-stripping methods are described for protecting digital media content against illicit recording and sharing. In one such method, a client device receives the media content and performs bit stripping on the received media content, thereby creating two datasets: stripped data and recombination data. The client device then recombines the datasets to reconstitute the media content, and it plays back the media content. Preferably, the media content on the client device is not available to recording software, and either the stripped data or the recombination data is also unavailable to such software. The client device may store one of these datasets; when future playback is desired, the client device requests the other of the datasets from a server. The bit-stripping may be performed in a client-specific way to discourage sharing of datasets.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2008Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Lyle Bertz, Fred Rogers, Jason Delker

Patent number: 8621513Abstract: Systems, methods and media are provided for presenting a group of available broadcast channels utilizing a wireless network upon initiation of a channel-viewing graphical user interface (GUI). The group comprises channels that can be broadcast most efficiently to the mobile device. After initiating the channel-viewing GUI on the mobile device, requests are communicated to elements on the network to retrieve lists of currently broadcast channels in the area and currently viewed channels throughout the wireless network. A list also is retrieved of recently viewed channels on the mobile device. At least a portion of each list is then presented on the channel-viewing GUI. The lists can be sent by a first video media proxy (VMP) server and a broadcast management server (BMS).Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2013Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Yaojun Sun, Jing Gu, Lyle Bertz, Wei-Ming Lan

Patent number: 7930421Abstract: Media, methods and systems are provided for coordinating changes of network sources for media streams in a telecommunications network. The streams communicate instances of media content via packets to devices. A first network source streams packets of an instance of media content to a device. Each packet includes information regarding the temporal ordering of that packet within the instance and information regarding the sequencing of the packet within the stream. It is determined that a second network source should stream the instance of media content. A point in the temporal ordering within the instance is identified and communicated at which the second network source will provide the instance of media content. The second network source streams to the mobile device the instance of media content from the identified point, without requiring adjustment of the information regarding the sequencing of the packets within the stream.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2008Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Lyle Bertz, Ayodeji Abidogun, Badri P. Patent number: 7395336Abstract: A wireless device may connect to a telecommunications network and register with a Session Initiation Protocol server. The Session Initiation Protocol server may notify a network element on the telecommunications network of the wireless device's registration. In response to a disconnection of the wireless device from the telecommunications network, the network element may notify the Session Initiation Protocol server of the wireless device's disconnection. The Session Initiation Protocol server may then responsively deregister the wireless device.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2002Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Arun Santharam, Farni Weaver, Piyush Jethwa, Debashis Haldar, Lyle Bertz
