  • Patent number: 4218332
Abstract: A novel class of compounds has been prepared comprising the tetrasulfides of C.sub.18 hydrocarbons, C.sub.18 fatty acids, and C.sub.18 fatty and alkyl and triglyceride esters. These tetrasulfides are useful as extreme pressure lubricant additives and show potential as replacements for sulfurized sperm whale oil.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 20, 1979
Date of Patent: August 19, 1980
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Arthur W. Schwab, Lyle E. Gast, Harold E. Kenney
  • Patent number: 4174329
Abstract: Cycloaddition reaction products of tetrafluoroethylene and conjugated triglyceride oils have been prepared and used in the modification of alkyd resins. Clear exterior coatings formulated from these resins are characterized by superior durability properties, including resistance to checking, cracking, flaking, and erosion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 26, 1978
Date of Patent: November 13, 1979
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Edward W. Bell, Lyle E. Gast
  • Patent number: 4094838
Abstract: A novel class of water-dispersible urethane resin coating compositions is prepared from triglyceride oils by a three-step, one kettle process. The steps of preparation are all characterized by low energy reaction conditions and the resultant coating compositions are unexpectedly water-dispersible at acid values as low as about 30.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 1977
Date of Patent: June 13, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Wilma J. Schneider, Lyle E. Gast
  • Patent number: 3991089
Abstract: Load-bearing lubrication compositions are prepared by adding to lubricating oil base stocks small amounts of sulfurized oleic alkyl esters or sulfurized alkyl esters of oleic acid-containing vegetable oils. A method of preparing the sulfurized fatty compounds is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 14, 1975
Date of Patent: November 9, 1976
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
Inventors: Arthur W. Schwab, Lyle E. Gast
