  • Patent number: 11801526
Abstract: A method of coating a fastener assembly that extends from a substrate comprises steps of at least partially saturating a permeable body with a volume of a liquid and covering the fastener assembly with the permeable body. The step of covering the fastener assembly with the permeable body comprises at least partially compressing the permeable body against the fastener assembly and transferring a portion of the volume of the liquid from the permeable body to an exposed outer surface of the fastener assembly and to a ring on the substrate, surrounding the fastener assembly.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 11, 2021
Date of Patent: October 31, 2023
    Assignee: The Boeing Company
Inventors: Richard Lynn Hopkins, Lyman Scott Ducworth, Diana Dujunco Dan Larrabee, Janet Karen H. Jackson, Sandra Loraine Boyd, Elker I. Vasquez

  • Patent number: 11130146
Abstract: Fastener-coating tools comprise a non-permeable body and a permeable body that laps over at least a portion of an outer surface of the non-permeable body, laps over all of a terminal surface of the non-permeable body, laps over at least a portion of an inner surface of the non-permeable body, spans an internal cavity of the non-permeable body, and defines a fastener cavity that is sized and shaped to receive a portion of a fastener assembly to be coated.

  • Publication number: 20200368772
Abstract: Fastener-coating tools (100), kits (200) thereof, and methods (300) of coating a fastener assembly (50) are disclosed. Fastener-coating tools (100) comprise a non-permeable body (102) and a permeable body (112) that laps over at least a portion of an outer surface (110) of the non-permeable body (102), laps over all of a terminal surface (116) of the non-permeable body (102), laps over at least a portion of an inner surface (108) of the non-permeable body (102), spans an internal cavity (106) of the non-permeable body (102), and defines a fastener cavity (114) that is sized and shaped to receive a portion of a fastener assembly (50) to be coated.

  • Publication number: 20090017252
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a seal includes providing a seal preform comprising a polymeric material, the seal preform having an end surface adjoining a side surface to define a corner; and agitating the seal preform in a container with an abrasive media to radius the corner of the seal preform.

  • Publication number: 20090014962
Abstract: A seal for static and dynamic sealing of a space between two surfaces. The seal includes a radial inner end defining a radial inner surface, a radial outer end defining a radial outer surface, a first axial end face, and a second axial end face, the radial inner end having a width narrower than the width of the radial outer end. The seal may have an annular recess extending around the circumference of the seal. When the radial inner surface is disposed about first surface, the seal is rollable about an edge of the radial inner end such that one of the first axial end face and the second axial end face is disposed against the first surface, and the opposite axial end face is oriented toward and compressible against the second surface.
