  • Patent number: 6380937
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically representing cluster analysis results. In accordance with the method and system of the present invention, a hierarchical tree is graphically displayed. The hierarchical tree represents cluster analysis of relationships between multiple items utilizing an initial distance constraint value, wherein the graphical display includes a graphically alterable threshold indicator positioned within the hierarchical tree that graphically marks the distance constraint value. The presentation of the graphical display of the hierarchical tree is dynamically altered to reflect a user-determined distance constraint value, in response to user-controlled alteration of the graphical position of the threshold indicator, such that upon changing a distance constraint for a cluster analysis, the hierarchical tree which graphically represents the cluster analysis is dynamically altered.

  • Patent number: 6222554
Abstract: In a data processor controlled display system having three-dimensional objects laid out in a three-dimensional virtual workspace, the objects have associated therewith virtual force fields around their peripheries. These force fields are defined by data stored in association with the data defining the objects. User interactive navigation means are provided for moving the viewpoint along a selected path at a velocity input by the viewer. Further, means are provided for exerting on said moving viewpoint, the force component of said field at the coordinate position of the viewpoint.

  • Patent number: 6195693
Abstract: A method and system in a multimedia computer system for automatically retrieving and presenting data associated with an audio recording having unique identifying indicia therein. In response to playing an audio recording in a multimedia computer system, a unique identifying indicia associated with the audio recording is identified. A listing of codes within the multimedia computer system is automatically searched to find a code corresponding to the unique identifying indicia. In response to finding the code corresponding to the unique identifying indicia, multimedia data is retrieved which corresponds to the unique identifying indicia. The multimedia data can be retrieved from local storage or from a remote network site. The multimedia data corresponding to the unique identifying indicia is then presented in the multimedia computer system, while playing the audio recording in the multimedia computer system.

  • Patent number: 6104394
Abstract: A data processing system, software program and method effectively and intuitively display a storage space of a data processing system to an end-user to allow the end-user to create a filing system which has an easily usable interface. In implementing this methodology, the user is allowed to simply request that all objects within an entire file system of a data processing system be placed in a logical container. A user sets the parameters for defining the desired characteristics of each of the objects stored within the logical container. Thus, a user is able to organize representations of desired objects in various storage locations without requiring extra steps by a user or excess memory. Furthermore, the contents of a logical container are dynamically updated in real-time to ensure that the filed information is current and accurate.

  • Patent number: 6094196
Abstract: A system, method and computer program are provided for a virtual three-dimensional workspace with means for navigating the user's viewpoint into said workspace. Potentially interactive three-dimensional objects are positioned within the workspace. There is provided for each object an interaction sphere having a preselected radius. This interaction sphere is stored in association with its corresponding object. It remains a characteristic of the object so that when, during navigation, the user's viewpoint comes within the interaction sphere of a particular object, that object is rendered interactive. In addition, the object which is rendered interactive is usually highlighted in some manner so as to inform the user that he may functionally interact with the object.

  • Patent number: 6045028
Abstract: A zone of corrosion-resistant material covering a friction stir welded joint surface is provided by applying a layer of corrosion-resistant material over one or both surfaces of the workpieces being joined so that the layer covers at least the weld zone which will be rendered plastic during a friction stir welding operation. The corrosion-resistant material layer is contacted by the friction stir welding tool, and the tool causes shearing and plastic flow of the corrosion-resistant material along the surface of the welded joint. The corrosion-resistant material thus metallurgically bonds with portions of the plasticized metal so as to form a corrosion-resistant zone protecting the welded joint from exposure to corrosive environments.
