  • Patent number: 5469838
Abstract: An enclosed gas fireplace which efficiently transfers heat from a combustion chamber to surrounding air chambers and to air flow conduits which pass through a flue gas offtake. The fireplace has an outer shell that remains relatively cool, so that the fireplace can be installed in a framed sheetrock or wood enclosure without the need for utilizing the special masonry work or masonry chimney normally required for a fireplace. In addition, the invention provides a special burner arrangement to enhance the aesthetic quality of the fire and which provides a clean-burning gas flame to meet modern emission standards.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 19, 1994
Date of Patent: November 28, 1995
Inventors: Lynn C. Broadbent, Craig L. Broadbent

  • Patent number: 4418680
Abstract: A damper and air flow control for use with fireplaces or stoves having a plurality of heat tubes extending through the exhaust passage for smoke and other products of combustion includes a plurality of slats secured in spaced side-by-side relation to one another. Each slat is adapted to be positioned above a heat tube when the damper is in open position so as to leave the spaces between the heat tubes substantially unobstructed. Each slat has a width greater than the space between the heat tube over which it is positioned when the damper is open and an adjacent heat tube so that the slats may be moved to a position where they substantially block the spaces between the heat tubes. Control apparatus is provided to move the slats between open, closed, or partially closed positions.
