  • Patent number: 8234795
Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying produce in a centrifugal drier is described. The drier includes a housing and a drum configured to receive a multi-volume basket. The method includes loading produce into a first volume and a second volume of the multi-volume basket. The basket may include perforated walls, a closed lower end, and an open upper end. The interior volume of the basket is divided into at least a first volume and a second volume by a perforated inner divider that is oriented concentrically to the basket walls. The first volume is disposed inside the inner divider. The second volume is disposed between the inner divider and the basket walls. A drive assembly rotates the drum and the basket, loaded with produce in the first and second volumes, to cause fluids to drain out of the produce to yield dried produce.

  • Patent number: 7640066
Abstract: A method and system is provided for gathering and packetizing data from networked building automation equipment, and for transmitting data packets as instant messages to remotely located users. An instant messaging (IM) server-based system is provided to facilitate communication between networked building equipment and a remotely located service contractor. When a registered router is operated, the router establishes a continuous pass-through communication link with the IM server and with building equipment connected to the router. The router automatically polls connected building equipment for alarms, faults and system failures, and also receives, processes, and responds to user requests for specific data from particular items of building equipment. Data gathered by the router is packetized, and the packets are then encapsulated into an instant message that is transmitted to the IM server.

  • Publication number: 20050261725
Abstract: A medical device for vessel occlusion, the medical device including an elongated body having a distal end portion, a proximal end portion, and a lumen disposed therethrough, an balloon disposed at the distal end portion of the elongated body, the balloon in fluid communication with the lumen. An opening defined at the proximal end portion of the elongated body, the opening being in fluid communication with the balloon via the lumen, and a valve body moveably disposed at the proximal end portion of the elongated body, the valve body movable between a closed position and an open position, the valve body configured to engage a surface of the elongated body, distal to the opening, to seal the opening when the valve body is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 6094290
Abstract: A light-reactive thermal window is disclosed having external and internal panes. The external pane is composed of photochromic glass, while the internal pane is composed of clear glass. The panes are separated by a space having a uniform thickness. Each of the panes has a peripheral edge, with a spacer located between the peripheral edges of the external and internal panes. A sealant seals the peripheral edges of the external and internal panes. The window may include a frame securing together the spacer, the sealant, and the peripheral edges of the panes. Also disclosed is a method of preventing glare on a screen while minimizing climate control costs by installing a light-reactive thermal window near the screen.

  • Patent number: 4493329
Abstract: An implantable stimulation electrode having differing stiffness characteristics along its length. An endocardial electrode (20) is disclosed which includes a spirally-wound, unifilar, continuous portion (50) extending the entire length of the electrode and a stiffening portion (52) which extends for only a portion of the electrode length. The spirals of the stiffening portion (52) and the continuous portion (50) are interleaved in a juxtapositional relationship with respect to each other to form a bifilar section (26), the remainder of the electrode being a unifilar section (28). In the bifilar section (26), each spiral is wound at twice the pitch of the spirals in the unifilar section (28). The bifilar section (26) has a greater stiffness than the unifilar section. In a specific embodiment disclosed, an atrial J electrode is formed in which the bifilar section includes the J portion of the electrode where stiffness is needed.

  • Patent number: 4340446
Abstract: A distillation process for recovering concentrated ethanol from an aqueous fermentate comprises fractionation of components of the aqueous fermentate under reduced pressure with vapor recompression and recovery of waste heat in a manner which obviates the need for substantial external sources of heat to operate the fractionation apparatus. The process includes a preliminary enrichment of the fermentate to separate volatile components, the enrichment also including recompression of a vapor phase and utilization of waste heat. The compression means used during enrichment and fractionation are run by engines which produce the recoverable waste heat. The utilization of vapor recompression and the use of waste heat to dry solid matter separated during the enrichment of the fermentate, for preheating the fermentate and for heating other process streams provides an energy efficient manner in which to recover ethanol from a fermentate.
