  • Patent number: 11426502
Abstract: Dialysis systems and methods for operating dialysis machines (e.g., peritoneal dialysis machines) for conducting dialysis treatments are disclosed. The dialysis system may include a dialysis machine for transferring dialysate to a patient from a dialysate source. The dialysate may flow from the dialysate source through a cassette (e.g., a disposable cassette) positionable within a port formed in the dialysis machine. The dialysis system may also include a cleaning cartridge insertable into the port. The cleaning cartridge may be arranged and configured to collect, remove, etc. any foreign material or debris from the port.

  • Patent number: 7992091
Abstract: A computing device comprises a memory to store a first version of an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) message, a receiver to receive a second version of the XML message, a processor and a display interface. The display interface provides a user interface having a first control, a second control and a third control. The first control is to cause the processor to merge the second version with the first version to produce a third version of the XML message. The second control is to cause the processor to replace in the memory the first version with the second version of the XML message. The third control is to cause the processor to reject the second version of the XML message.

  • Patent number: 7871391
Abstract: A chamber is described for use in an extracorporeal fluid system. The chamber has a bottom entry port and a bottom exit port. A microporous filter at the top of the chamber allows air in the fluid to vent from the chamber. In use, the chamber is filled with saline. Blood is then introduced into the chamber. A layer of saline is above a layer of blood in the chamber. The saline stagnates as the blood flows through the chamber. The saline keeps the blood from contacting the filter and depositing protein on the filter.

  • Publication number: 20080045884
Abstract: The invention provides, inter alia, automated medical methods and apparatus that test PD effluent in a flow path (e.g., with an APD system or CAPD setup) to detect, for example, the onset of peritonitis, based on optical characteristics of the effluent resolved at cellular scales of distance. For example, according to one aspect of the invention, an APD machine includes, in an effluent flow path, apparatus for early stage peritonitis detection comprising an illumination source and a detector. The source is arranged to illuminate peritoneal effluent in a chamber that forms part of the flow path, and the detector is arranged to detect illuminant scattered by the effluent. The detector detects that reflected or scattered illuminant at a cellular scale of resolution, e.g., on a scale such that separate cellular-sized biological (or other) components in the effluent can be distinguished from one another based on scattering events detected by the detector.

  • Publication number: 20080027374
Abstract: The invention provides container systems, kits and methods for peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions. Such a system, for example, includes a first compartment that contains a PD osmotic agent and a second compartment that contains a PD buffer agent. The compartments maintain their respective contents separately from one another for purposes of transport, storage and/or sterilization. However, the compartments are fluidly couplable, so that their respective contents can be combined with one another, e.g., following sterilization of the agents and prior to their introduction into the patient's abdomen. The invention provides, in other aspects, such systems, kits and methods that provide protective structure which inhibits breaking of a seal prior between the second compartment and an outlet of the system, prior to breaking of a seal between the first and second compartments.
