  • Patent number: 10131516
Abstract: A method of splicing a rope where the ends of the rope are taped and then cut, leaving a fresh face on both ends of the rope. A length of shrink-wrap tubing is placed over one of the rope ends and slid up out of the way. Next, epoxy is applied to the fresh cut ends, and the ends of the rope are brought together and clamped in a jig. The splice is wrapped in tape while the epoxy cures. Once cured, the tape is removed and the joint cleaned so that the diameter of the splice is the same thickness as the rope. Next, additional epoxy is added to the joint and the shrink-wrap tubing is slid over the splice. A heat gun is used to shrink the tubing. Any excess epoxy is removed with a small knife to complete the splice. The rope is then ready for use.

  • Patent number: 10016645
Abstract: A rope-climbing machine that has a simplified frame that reduces the cost of manufacture without sacrificing safety and overall strength. The machine is made of three parts-a mast, a base structure and a braking system. The mast is a length of pipe. The endless rope passes through this pipe as part of the operation of the device. There is a guide pulley attached to the top of the mast that directs the rope downwards. The braking system for the rope is attached to the base of the mast. The mast is attached to the back portion of the base, which holds the mast and provides a stable base for the device.

  • Patent number: 8881439
Abstract: A greeting card has a card body comprising at least a front panel and electrical components. The front panel contains an opening that acts as a track. A spinner including two wheels spaced apart and coupled together with an axle rotatably engages the track are positioned on opposite sides of the front panel. The spinner moves along the track by virtue of gravity when the greeting card is being tilted. The electrical components may include a power source, a sound module having an audio file stored therein, a speaker, and a switch located adjacent to the track. The spinner activates the switch when the spinner moves adjacent to the location of the switch which in turn initiates playback of the audio file through the speaker.

  • Patent number: 8036265
Abstract: A system for encoding a video signal includes an input module to receive a media signal to be communicated to a destination device, the media signal being divided into a plurality of segments each comprising one or more temporally adjacent frames. The system also includes an a encoding module configured, for each of the plurality of segments, to test a plurality of different CODECs on a segment by encoding the segment using a plurality of CODECs to produce a respective plurality of encoded segments, the selection module being further configured to select the encoded segment having the highest image quality while satisfying at least one additional constraint. The system further includes an output module configured, for each of the plurality of segments, to deliver the selected segment to the destination device and report to the destination device which CODEC was used to encode the selected segment.

  • Patent number: 7303506
Abstract: A combination horizontal and vertical rope-pulling device that uses a hydraulic braking assembly that is mounted on a vertical frame to support an endless rope that is placed over a number of pulleys. A pivoting boom is attached at the top of the frame. In the vertical mode, the rotating boom is positioned at an angle extending rearward from the vertical frame. The rope passes over a number of pulleys to simulate a vertical rope for climbing. In the horizontal mode, the rotating boom is rotated down so that it is parallel to the vertical frame. The rope follows the downward run of the boom and around the pulleys. In this way, the user can use the machine as a horizontal rope-pulling machine.

  • Patent number: 7295608
Abstract: A media streaming system for streaming media signals is provided. The media streaming system takes a library of separate and distinct CODECs that are provided as a searchable CODEC library and used in determining specific characteristics in the media signal to identify similar sections of the signal. The media streaming system uses a computer implemented intelligence system, such as an artificial intelligence mechanism to learn and capture the unique characteristics of a sinal as the signal is being streamed. The media streaming system also compresses and decompresses the media signal as the signals are streamed from a source media to a destination device.

  • Patent number: 7060003
Abstract: A portable, stable rope-pulling exercise machine. The machine has a stable support frame, a number of rope pulleys and rope guides mounted on the frame, an endless rope extending around the pulleys and guides to form a path which includes a horizontally extending rope pulling portion, and hydraulic braking assembly coupled to the pulley system for controlling the rate of movement of the rope based upon the strength of the user when said user is pulling the rope. The machine allows a user to pull a rope continuously as in a simulated tug-of-war. The short frame allows the device to be installed anywhere. A seat with a footrest allows a user to gain leverage when exercising with the rope.

  • Publication number: 20030188555
Abstract: Apparatus and methods allow fused bi-conical couplers to be pulled to reduced diameters to exposes more of the evanescent field in the coupled region. First and second stages hold the fibers on either side of the fused region, with at least one of the stages being moveable relative to the other. A furnace positioned relative to the fused region, and a tensometer is used to determine the tension of the fibers between the stages. A controller is provided to monitor the tension on the fibers and increase the distance between the stages when the tension falls to a predetermined threshold. As the fibers are pulled, light begins to couple from one fiber to the next, leading to five distinct crossover regions. The tension is continuously monitored, and when the tension drops below each threshold, the furnace is slowly pushed back to maintain the tension by decreasing the heat on the fiber from the furnace. As the fiber is pulled through these crossover areas, the coupling region decreases in diameter.
