Patent number: 10901489Abstract: In a multiphase electrical power construction and assignment, a processor: determines a phase and voltage configuration for bi-directional power device pairs; determines a given bi-directional power device pair is to be coupled to a given phase connection based on the configuration; determines whether the given bi-directional power devices in the given bi-directional power device pair are to be coupled to each other; confirms that the given bi-directional power device pair is not coupled to any of the plurality of phase connections; couples the given bi-directional power device pair to the given phase connections, where power signals of the given bi-directional power device pair are synchronized with a power signal of the given phase connection; and in response to determining that the given bi-directional power devices are to be coupled to each other, couples each of the bi-directional power devices to a short bus.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2017Date of Patent: January 26, 2021Assignee: Stem, Inc.Inventors: Lynn Smith, Stacey Reineccius

Patent number: 10804710Abstract: The invention provides a bidirectional converter that operates under an AC generation mode or a charge mode. The bidirectional converter may be a single component or circuit, which may include a DC-DC conversion stage using a unique “Smith 2 Stage conversion” technique and a DC-AC conversion stage or AC-DC conversion stage using a switchable filter depending on the mode. During the charge mode, the converter may be able to control the voltage and current of the DC output using a software algorithm, to match the battery being charged, or the DC receiver. This may enable the converter to control the nature of the DC output so it can be adapted to any energy storage technology. The controllable output voltage and synchronizable frequency may allow the converter to be used in series combinations to achieve a variety of high voltage outputs from simpler building blocks.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2015Date of Patent: October 13, 2020Assignee: STEM, INCInventor: Lynn Smith

Patent number: 10587727Abstract: Systems and methods of the present disclosure are directed to efficiently editing data requests sent from devices, allowing for an improved database information delivery system. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an administrator device limits an amount of data requested based on a number of factors prior to sending the request to a server. In some embodiments, a server, after receiving a request for refreshed data, reduces the amount of data requested based on a number of factors prior to retrieving the requested data from a source and delivering the requested data to an administrator device.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2016Date of Patent: March 10, 2020Assignee: Avaya Inc.Inventors: Lynn Smith, Sheila Higgins, Marc A. Geist, Hongguang Li, Stan Wilkison, Stuart M. Shepherd, Dwayne W. Ockel, Gregory P. Schin

Patent number: 8803570Abstract: In a multiphase electrical power assignment, a processor: receives instructions to connect a bi-directional power device to a multiphase premise power source; determines that the power device is to be coupled to a target phase's phase connection; confirms that the power device is not coupled to any phase connections; and couples the power device to the phase connection, where the power device's power signal is synchronized with the phase connection's power signal. When the power device is in a connected state, the processor: issues a command to place each phase connection switch in an open state; in response to confirming that the phase connection switches are in the open state, issues commands to the power device so that a power signal of the power device will be synchronized with the target phase; and closes the phase connection switch corresponding to the target phase.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2011Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: STEM, IncInventors: Lynn Smith, Stacey Reineccius

Patent number: 8281943Abstract: A shelving system includes a frame with vertical frame members and cross braces, a shelf with three-sided perimeter groove and under-shelf groove, a wire perimeter shelf support engaging the perimeter groove and vertical frame members, and a wire under-shelf support constructed to engage the under-shelf groove and the vertical legs in a stable arrangement. The assembled shelving system does not require tools or separate fasteners for assembly, and assembly is quick, easy and intuitive, yet allows for flexibility, customization, and adaptation for different uses and desired aesthetics. A variety of very different shelving systems can be constructed by purchasing different frames, shelves, and accessories. The system can be leaned against a wall at an angle, or fastened vertically against a wall. Shelves are angularly adjustable, height adjustable, and replaceable. A pair of systems angled against each other form a free standing arrangement, and can support a header panel therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2010Date of Patent: October 9, 2012Assignee: Angleworks, LLCInventors: Michael Suman, Lynn Smith

Publication number: 20060156649Abstract: A staircase structure, representatively at least partially curved, is constructed from longitudinal modules each having tread, riser and stringer portions. In one embodiment of the construction technique, stringer portions of the modules are longitudinally telescoped with one another and then intersecured so that the interfitted modules form successive longitudinal portions of the assembled staircase structure. In another embodiment of the construction technique, stringer portions of the modules are vertically stacked and then intersecured. Illustratively, the riser and stringer portions of each module are of a laminated wooden construction shaped in situ on the underside of module tread portion by a CNC milling machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2005Publication date: July 20, 2006Inventor: Lynn Smith
