Patent number: 5346079Abstract: A rotatable carousel for storing a variety of rear suspended data storage media holders. This carousel includes a base unit having a base member rotatably affixed thereto. A plurality of modular compartment units are securely stacked ont top of one another by engagement with the upper portions of a lower modular unit with the lower portion of an upper modular unit. The lowermost modular unit is affixed by screws to the base member. This causes all of the stacked modular units to rotate relative to the base unit. A top plate is mounted onto the uppermost modular unit.Compartments are formed in each of the modular units. Apertures in the rear wall of the compartments engage the rear suspension members of the data storage media holders. This provides an efficient and compact storage systems, particular for staging sites.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1993Date of Patent: September 13, 1994Assignee: Engineered Data Products, Inc.Inventors: Macy J. Patent number: 5292010Abstract: A media holder for securely holding various sizes of data storage media in a single holder. The media holder includes a rear wall, bottom surface and a plurality of spaced parallel flange portions extend inwardly from the rear wall and bottom surface to form compartments. Rear biasing members extend angularly across the rear wall of each of these compartments. Bottom biasing members extend angularly across the bottom surface of each of these compartments in approximately the same direction and same angle as the rear biasing members.Data storage media, such as optical disk cases, are inserted into the compartments formed by the spaced flange portions. The angled surfaces of the rear and bottom biasing members bias the media against an adjacent flange portion. The line contact between the angled surfaces and media and the surface contact between the media and the adjacent flange portion will securely hold differing widths and sizes of media in the media holder.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1992Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Assignee: Engineered Data Products, Inc.Inventors: Timothy J. Pickles, Macy J. Price, Jr.

Patent number: 5286103Abstract: A carousel cart for efficiently transporting tape cartridge packs. A wheeled cart includes a rotatable housing unit. The housing unit includes a plurality of peripheral recesses. Engaging members extend angularly upward and outward from the rear wall of each of the recesses. A guide surface is attached to the rear and upper wall of each of the recesses. Tape cartridge storage packs having rear engaging slots are inserted into the recesses so the slots engage the engaging members. The design of the present invention enables the tape cartridge packs to be transported in a compact carousel cart. This allows access in crowded conditions as typically occurs. The tape cartridge packs are securely held in the recesses.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1992Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: Engineered Data Products, Inc.Inventors: Macy J. Patent number: 5265739Abstract: A storage rack system for providing high density storage of data cartridges. The storage rack system includes high density center racks having storage capability on opposing sides of the racks. Movable racks having upper rollers recessed below the plane of the upper surface of the movable racks and lower rollers are mounted on the system on both sides of the center racks. The movable racks allow access to at least one column of tape cartridge holders supported on the center racks. Brake members are resiliently mounted on the lower surfaces of the outer movable racks enabling the movable members to come to a complete stop without excessive jarring of the racks or tape cartridge holders.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1993Date of Patent: November 30, 1993Assignee: Engineered Data Products, Inc.Inventors: Macy J. Price, Jr., Laurence G. Ball, Andrew W. Wildhaber
