  • Publication number: 20250142607
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to managing access to 5G cellular baseband resources for 5G-capable wireless devices. A wireless device can monitor application workloads by analyzing communication network performance requirements for a given application in-use or launching for future use along with system-level indications of overall device usage, battery level, and mobility status to determine whether access to 5G cellular baseband resources is recommended for an application. A 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is provided for an application indicating a level of bandwidth in current use or expected for future use as well as a confidence metric in the bandwidth level indication. The 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is used with additional device criteria to determine whether access to one or more 5G radio frequency bands is allowed.

  • Publication number: 20220312505
Abstract: Reporting potential impacts of sounding reference signal-switching (SRS-switching) to a base station may include determining that SRS-switching is to be performed by a UE. Based on determining that SRS-switching is to be performed, potential impacts to one or more of a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) caused by performing SRS-switching while sharing radio frequency (RF) front-ends (RFFE) between at least a subset of the plurality of RATS may be processed. The potential impacts may comprise at least one of transmit-blanking (Tx-blanking) and receive-blanking (Rx-blanking) associated with one or more of the subset of RATs. A communication that indicates the potential impacts of SRS-switching may be encoded for transmission to a base station. The base station may also provide priority configurations for determining how to handle Tx-blanking, Rx-blanking, and SRS-skipping associated with SRS-switching.

  • Publication number: 20200267533
Abstract: Apparatus and methods to improve compatibility between a primary wireless device including multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) and a cellular capable secondary wireless device are disclosed. The cellular capable secondary wireless device pairs with the primary wireless device, which provides a configurable option to allow mobile terminated connections and/or messages to be received at the cellular capable secondary wireless device for multiple SIMs when the cellular capable secondary wireless device is not within proximity of the primary wireless device and is being worn. The primary wireless device indicates conditional forwarding to a second wireless network associated with a second SIM and adjusts notification alerts to reduce time for forwarding when the cellular capable secondary wireless device is separated from the primary wireless device and in use.

  • Publication number: 20180351873
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for a user equipment to implement a dynamic discard timer. The user equipment may generate a packet for transmission and store the packet in a buffer of the user equipment. The user equipment may then generate a timeout value for a discard timer for the buffer, where the discard timer discards the packet from the buffer when the timeout value is reached. After a predetermined amount of time, the user equipment may determine whether the packet has been discarded from the buffer and, when it is determined that the packet has not been discarded from the buffer, update the timeout value.

  • Publication number: 20160119752
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for dynamic search management in a multi-mode device. In one embodiment, a mobile device performs network search and acquisition by dynamically changing search delays and/or search frequencies. In one implementation, the mobile device adjusts the amount of time allocated for each network search based on e.g., previous network connection history (e.g., previously connected to a home network, previously connected to a roaming network), device conditions, user preferences, geographical information, etc. By focusing search effort on cellular technologies which have a high likelihood of success, the mobile device can greatly improve search time and reduce unnecessary power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20150296483
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for intelligent scheduling of client device tasks based on one or more network scheduling constraints. During normal network operation, a client device performs an array of scheduled maintenance tasks to optimize network performance (e.g., signal strength measurements, etc.) However, during hybrid network operation, regularly scheduled maintenance tasks for a first network can interrupt higher priority tasks on other networks. Consequently, the present invention in one embodiment provides a method for a client device to properly prioritize and re-schedule maintenance tasks. For example, CDMA 1X cell selection (or cell re-selection) procedures have flexible time constraints, and can be postponed (or expedited) to minimize impact on LTE network traffic.

  • Publication number: 20150289286
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for minimizing scheduling collisions between networks. In one embodiment, the networks are substantially unsynchronized, and during hybrid network operation (e.g., LTE and CDMA 1X operation), a mobile device can place CDMA 1X voice calls while registered with the LTE network. However, since the LTE and CDMA 1X networks are not coordinated, the mobile device will experience scheduling collisions. In one variant, the LTE network accounts for predictable behaviors (such as CDMA 1X paging), and schedules low priority tasks during likely time interval conflicts. Consequently, even though the mobile device must tune away from the LTE network to check CDMA 1X pages, overall LTE network performance is minimally affected.

  • Publication number: 20150110042
Abstract: A processor in a mobile wireless device provisions a user identity module (UIM) card in the mobile wireless device in response to a user command. The processor detects a user command to provision the UIM card and reads a provisioning status of the UIM card from a UIM card provisioning status file in the UIM card. When the provisioning status is “not provisioned”, the processor establishes a bearer independent protocol (BIP) data connection to a server in a wireless network and exchanges provisioning data between the server and the UIM card until the UIM card commands the processor to close the BIP data connection. In representative embodiments, the UIM card provisioning status file includes fields for a UIM card provisioning status, a UIM card software version and a UIM card provisioning date/time, and the processor updates the fields during provisioning.

  • Publication number: 20150092644
Abstract: A station that generates data packets to be transmitted by the station such that the data packets spend a minimum amount of time in a buffer prior to transmission. The method includes receiving a specification for a connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) cycle, the specification indicating when a plurality of onDurations of the C-DRX cycle occurs, the onDurations having a predetermined interval therebetween, receiving data at a known time relative to the C-DRX cycle, determining a modification to a conversion process that converts the data to data packets such that the data packets are stored in a buffer at a subframe immediately preceding one of the onDurations subsequent to the known time, performing the conversion process based upon the modification and storing the data packets at the subframe immediately preceding the one of the onDurations. In one embodiment, the data is raw audio data and the data packets are audio packets.

  • Publication number: 20120033590
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet classification and prioritization using a user datagram protocol (UDP) header in a mobile wireless device. The mobile wireless device includes an application processor and a transceiver. The application processor sets a value of a field embedded in a higher layer packet and transfers the higher layer packet to the transceiver. The transceiver receives the higher layer packet from the application processor and reads the set value of the embedded field. The transceiver clears the value in the embedded field and creates at least one lower layer protocol data unit from the higher layer packet. The transceiver maps the lower layer protocol data unit to a wireless access channel having a transmission property based on the read value of the embedded field. In representative embodiments, the embedded field is an optional checksum in a UDP header.
